How do you feel about the Ashes?

Why make it a Lions tour? That just makes it a pointless and demoralising two months of our kids getting hammered (rather than our seniors) while subjecting them to all the same mental pressures, when they are probably in a worse position to handle it. Australia's COVID policy was brilliant in the short term but a plan with no exit strategy. Our squad may be weak as piss right now and mentally shot, but it's not their fault Australia's COVID policies make a group of 50 players and staff jollying around their country playing cricket for ten weeks completely untenable.

Can it. Sue us.

now you can argue ECB have looked after themselves and not others, fine

I have no sympathy for the likes of Morgan who play franchise cricket but seemingly what to do everything but play for England btw

but the likes of Root is a different matter all together

Aussies are mad, they are within their right to put any sanctions and we can’t criticise their covid policies with our record but you also can’t criticise players for going back into that environment

I was a bit on the fence about it but the comments from Australia have been absolutely disgusting with no empathy for a country that has been through 120k deaths and a lot of trauma. Fuck them.

Agree with this completely. Just put it back a year. Greed is ruining cricket and TV money and bonuses is the only reason anyone is even contemplating this. Aussies were quite happy to drop Pakistan, Bangladesh etc. so they can say fuck all.

Our lot are just as bad mind. If it was the other way around you'd have the usual English old boys spouting crap (Vaughan, Tufnell, Boycott etc.)

I dont think that is too comforting, I've been working remotely abroad last few weeks, which has been nice, but even I dont like the uncertainty of not having an exact date

being not sure when you see your kids against must not be a nice feeling

We've been to India and Sri Lanka

thats the point

the majority of their players have not even left their own towns, its disgusting that they are even commenting on it, why cnt they keep their gobs shut?

I'd argue,though, that there's a difference between the paid media,which the three above are, and current players commenting on the current impasse.

I mean going to India means fuck all, as they are one of the big three (I'd argue that Australia would almost certainly go to India as well - as its a tour that makes them all a massive profit). Sri Lanka is fair enough, but I highly doubt we would of gone through had it clashed with the IPL, which is part of the problem at the moment.

Just to emphasise/ make clear though, I do agree with what you're saying and i'm not excusing the Aussies in anyway - just merely pointing out that the big three are all as bad as each other for putting money/ profit first all the time - to the detriment of the sport.

Probably mate. I don't think we have too many strong voices in the England team at the moment though! I'm sure the England teams of ten, fifteen, twenty years ago would probably have a little more to say haha.

I'm dating an aussie though and it's funny to hear through her about how supportive their general public are over their isolationist policies/ how little sympathy they have with the rest of the world right now. Seems to be no sympathy for Australians who haven't been home for two years as their boarder is shut because "it's their own fault they're still abroad". As long as those sat at home in Oz are alright who gives a fuck. I reckon the Aussie fans wouldn't have a single ounce of sympathy for the England team not wanting to come over and quarantine etc.

I'd argue they are giving more back to their own supporters by postponing the series until they can travel freely and support them. I don't think the England cricketers are under any obligation to give anything back to Australian cricket or it's supporters.

I am not interested in the money to the ECB board, but to say it means fuck all is pretty staggering.

I am on about players, in bubbles

it makes no difference if those tests were in India, Cape Town, or Kent, the are still bubbles away from their families.

I think that it's rather refreshing that the Australian players are allowed to express their feelings rather than having to spout the carefully crafted sound bites written by the England PR department

And how can you be certain that Lyon and Paine quotes aren't carefully crafted soundbites from CA PR department.?
after all CA are very keen for the Ashes tour to go ahead purely for financial reasons.
 
I say pull out. I don’t see the point in going over with half a team. Sounds like they are sftinf like right twats the Australians.
