How do you feel about the Ashes?

Seems the players will be briefed tomorrow. And then decide over the weekend

let’s say we get 50% of the ideal squad (whatever that is) pulling out

1) should it go ahead? Do you want it to?
2) should these pulling out get their place back immediately after?

I guess so yeah

I actually want to see some cricket. Even if it’s a b team there would be something fascinating about it. And potentially heroic

Saffers with have a series over Christmas and New Year probably.

Pick a load of expat club players already living in Oz.

They reckon there might not be tests in QLD and WA.

First choice team or nothing, for me.

The Aussie gloat-fest is bad enough when our full-strength squad is present - don't think I could stand watching a B-squad getting battered from pillar to post in front of crowing, partisan crowds.

Their own, internal rules may prevent it being a full tour anyway, with Perth almost certainly off the cards.

Shift it to Dubai, would be able to get spectators in the grounds, sitting in the sun on xmas day, instead of unwrapping endless pairs of socks at home , no contest

I don’t know. If it was the other way round I’d be gutted if they didn’t come, but I wouldn’t be keen on going myself either under those conditions.

Not interested in it at all mind. Got more interest in the T20 World Cup. At least we’ve got a fair chance in that.

As for question 2, it depends how the replacements do, although Root and Anderson should automatically get their places back

A) I'm not sure any of us can answer until we know exactly how the Tour will look. However if it's gonna be essentially a Lion's tour, then I can't see that being any good for the game. I know the Aussies will crow beating whatever side we put out (and btw, so did we when the Aussies were decimated with Packer), but I can't see there being the usual interest even over there for playing some County plodders. Probably worth postponing.

B) I don't think I could blame anyone who doesn't want to go. Constant quarantine even after moving between States, and days upon days of nothing but lying in a hotel bed missing home, missing partners, missing children can't be good for anyone's mental health.
Marcus Trescothicks book is a good insight into this, when he mentions the first start of his bad anxiety away with England came when he toured India, knowing his wife and newborn baby were at home and there was nothing he could do. Imagine being stuck in a hotel room for days on end with your mind going overtime?
I have to be honest and admit I don't think I could hack it.
If they're worth their place on merit when we return, they come back in for me. Some things are more important than a game of cricket.

Sounds like if they play at the Gabba and Adelaide the regime will be less draconian, so why not play all the tests at those venues? I think if we can only get half a team out we should sack it off - England's players have been in a lot of bubbles and look what it's done to Stokes.

Agreed. As I put in the other thread, if they aren't going to give special permission to move around states, and insist that the players isolate in between then just sack it off.

Staying in a team bubble is one thing, but as you say, days on end in a hotel room unable to practice in between games just seems like a waste of time. Postpone it a year.
