England v India (Third Test) Headingley

Ahead of who when broad and woakes and wood
Overton has played plenty of cricket so I think he will get selected rightly ahead of Woakes this summer and is a better bet than Woakes in Aus. Wood won’t play back to back tests and Broads form as well as fitness is a concern.

@The Rat this, not sure if he's missing the last one or the last two

Edit - just reread the article, he may miss some of this series

had no idea

Always defended Buttler but my view is Bairstow is by far the best keeper batsman in England

You've seen how he has played this series, he will consistently get those scores like 30-60 which is fine, but maybe not the big scores from 5

Have we got a better 5 though? Pope looked all over the place.

The one I keep going back to is Vince, I think he is a better cricketer than 4 years ago.

Wouldn't be surprised if he was brought back. Really unfortunate from his point of view that Foakes has spent so long out.

The great position we're in means there's no need to panic if India get to 200-2, I'd start to be a little concerned if they were 300-4

Given that he's going to miss the rest of the series and is talking about missing the Ashes I really wouldn't be surprised if Buttler decides to become a one day specialist soon.
Second baby coming along too. Will have two kids under 3. Think it would be in everyone's interests if he did consider that over the winter.

Had a read through the thread from yesterday’s play and can’t believe how much negativity there is

345 ahead with an innings in hand. Occupied the crease for the full day. Batted well first session while it was dark and thick cloud cover. Root and Malan came in and accelerated and we finished the day scoring 303 runs. 2 perfect days for England.

Feel a bit fragile this morning. Need to get down the ground for a mender this morning.

Probably need to man up a bit

I’m assuming you are playing Anderson, broad and one of wood/archer assuming everyone’s fit. And a spinner and stokes. So where does Overton fit in?
It’s not about choosing ‘the best 4’ that’s fantasy cricket and conditions and fitness always play a part. Broad is injured currently, his stock is falling while others are rising and he won’t play 5 tests in Australia. Archer may or may not recover fully from elbow surgery. Wood struggles with back to back test matches. Overton and Robison will play a lot of cricket over the next year for England. That’s where they fit in.

It’s hardly fantasy cricket. Broad and Anderson haven’t missed many tests at all during their careers and I said a rotation option of archer and wood to keep both fresh, so likely one will be fit. Then you’ve got Woakes, stone, Robinson and looks like Curran is also ahead of Overton in the pecking order (in the eyes of the selectors anyway), so it’s unlikely Overton is going to force his way into the side very often, despite people claiming he should start on the back of one decent innings. And all that’s for 3 places, as stokes obviously starts when available

Day three

Good to hear the little chirpy keeper silenced he’s another prick like kholi or we not allowed to say that.
The amount of moaning they do is mental don’t notice on sky but when your there they are like moany teenagers.

put it into them today slowly becoming like smiths Australia

their fans also total pricks too.

Haway England.

Did they show Pant f***ing about with Roots bails on Sky yesterday? Assume he was trying to unsettle him. It worked a treat because he leathered the next ball through the covers for 4.

It is absolutely fantasy cricket. Look the next 7 test matches for a start. Archer and Stone wont play in any of them and Archers future as a test match cricketer depends on successful, complicated elbow surgery. Woakes will almost certainly not play in any of them. Lack of game time for this series and not the skill set for Aus which will discount Curran as a frontline bowler. You are then left to choose from Anderson, Broad, Wood, Overton, Robinson and Stokes for the next 7 tests with many of those bowlers due to age, fitness, form etc won’t play in all tests particularly back to back. That’s where they fit in.

Woakes played for Warks 2 this week. I think he’ll play at least one of the next seven.

Well day 2 was excellent, just recovering and a shame I'm not back there today. Other than Root's century a highlight of yesterday was a bunch of bananas and a bunch of chickens abusing a strawberry for not being able to down a pint in one.

You've missed a big point here too.

Wood and Woakes will be pretty important for the T20 world cup.

Stokes not so much but then hes had a very difficult time and he could easily come back like a man possessed.

I can see the Aussies pushing for the ashes but with the T20 world cup and IPL to come. Then they have a test against Afghanistan to fit in before us.

Will their top players be fatigued from bubbles and what not. Putting their willingness to play it this year into doubt.
