England v India (Third Test) Headingley

Sibley:

2016: 49.4
2020: 47

Indeed, not even close…

Hmmm he made his debut in 2019 and these are his figures since

2019 - 14
2020 - 47
2021 - 19

That gives him a Test career average of under 30 with two tons to his name. Cook was averaging over 40 with 7 tons to his name in his first three years.

There really is no comparison. I can’t think of anything that makes them similar.

Cook is one of the greatest openers to have played the game. Sibley is a very limited average opener.
The 2 shouldn’t be in the same sentence
Cook developed into one of the greatest openers. And wasn’t near the most naturally talented, so did a lot through hard work and determination. No reason Sibley couldn’t follow a similar path and become a decent opener for us (we don’t exactly have high competition atm)

Aye I’ve had a mare with that one 😂 trying to work and post and watch at the same time 😂

Still had an impressive 2020, which people forget quickly
Oh aye, can’t knock the lad for averaging nearly 50 in a calendar year. He just seems to have regressed from that to the point where he seems scared to play anything other than a block or a leave.

I’m not arguing he didn’t deserve to be dropped, just that there is enough potential there in him, and he’s shown as much during 2020, that we shouldn’t give up on him yet. Just needs an offside scoring shot for me to swing pressure back onto the fielders

That's very disappointing from Hameed. Got totally bogged down this morning and it was only a matter of time before he got out.
