England v India (Third Test) Headingley

Don't think there's a way back for Sibley now like. Pleasing to see both openers play shots. And not leave time after time.
He’s only young and I think there’s some potential there, he just needs to develop an offside scoring shot really. Reminds me a lot of cook when he first started, and how cook wasn’t dropped still surprises me.

And let’s be honest Burns is only playing because he’s slightly less crap like Sibley, not really due to any merit in his performances either.

Even in his poorest runs of form for England his average was better than Dom Sibley’s. And most of those runs of form came when he was captain. In his first five seasons playing for England his lowest average was 36.

Cook always scored runs at a rate of about 42/50 as well which showed he had ways of finding runs. Cook could put away half volleys around the ground, long hops and balls to the hip. He was far superior in every department to Sibley.

The ability to score runs off poor balls evaded Sibley. He blocked half volleys

Apples and oranges though. Cook played in a very good batting lineup and had competition for places. Sibleys only competing with Burns let’s be honest, and neither are setting the world alight.

But don’t cloud cook in your bias - he was pretty poor when he first came through, no two ways about it. Improved massively mind, but started as bad as sibley

Cook averages by year:

2006: 46
2007: 43
2008: 36
2009: 45
2010: 58

It’s not even close between the two.

Agreed to a point, but Burns will always score more runs, have more gears, take more risks.

If Sibley was scoring as well as Cook did in his worst year he’d be opening the batting today.

Cook’s ability gave him options to score runs. Sibley doesn’t have that. Cook scored five ODI tons with a strike rate above 80 in each of them. I don’t think Sibley could do that with his scoring options.
Hameed getting stuck a little bit here.

He is. There’s been some good bowling this morning but he’s not got much rhythm.
