Robert De Niro destroying his legacy

There's still some decent actors, problem is more on Hollywood imo. Most directors are poor and only interested in doing blockbusters, superhero films or remakes/sequels/prequels in an attempt to make as much money as quickly as possible.

If you look at all the great films of the past they cover all sorts of genres and a lot where dramas. You barely get any released at the pictures anymore and have to rely on straight to Netflix/Amazon films.

A lot of the best films like that are also independent movies or foreign movies that for the most part people havent heard of.

A lot of the best actors tend to make their name in TV thesedays and move into movies after as well.

Nah, hes class but he hasn't got anything close to Godfather II, Taxi Driver, Raging Bull, Goodfellas, Deer Hunter like performances. Not even close imo.
he’s done some huge movies, with a wide range too.

Titanic
Man in the iron mask
Romeo & Juliet
The beach

catch me if you can
Blood diamond
Aviator
Inception

gangs of New York
The Departed
Wolf of Wall Street street
Django

I’m not trying to compare the films individually but as a wider range, LDC is better that RDN

It’s more about what LDC can’t do. RDN does brooding intense psychopath far better but tbh that’s all he excels at.

The key line in that report says he has spent more than he earns over time. Anybody living sensibly could have retired and lived comfortably without ever needing to work again after just one of his big film pay days. Yet he’s had several and (to quite his mate Joe Pesci) “f***ed it all up”.

I think he is fantastic in Goodfellas, Casino, Cape Fear, Awakenings and Heat. I don’t have that much sympathy for people lucky enough to be absolutely minted but then stupidly piss it all away.

I rate Di Caprio, he's a quality actor. He's just not as good as De Niro, hasn't got the better films and doesn't have the greater individual performances. Even in some of De Niros lesser films he puts on a tremendous performance. Well up to about the late 90s anyway then he looked like he called it in for a while.

Godfather II
Taxi Driver
Mean Streets
Raging Bull
Heat
Cape Fear
Frankenstein
Mad Dog and Glory
The Mission
Awakenings
Once Upon A Time In America

Are all top level performances even if some of the films are classics. The. You have another group of quality performances in a range of films such as:

Midnight Run
This Boys Life
The King of Comedy
Angel Heart
New York New York
The Untouchables
Casino
The Fan
A Bronx Take
Ronin
Jackie Brown
Meet The Parents
Analyse This
Men of Honour
The Good Sheppard
Stardust
American Hustle
Joker
The Irishman

Range there from gangster films, dramas, fantasy, comedy, romantic, musical, historical. Don't think Di Caprio is more diverse at all.

Great actor bit go up against someone who is in the argument for greatest in this one.
And also out of all the shite De Niro has done he still doesn't have a worse performance than DiCaprio in Blood Diamond.

The definition of a great actor is that even though they are a superstar and instantly recognisable you get lost in their performance. This applies in far more cases for De Niro. In my opinion of course.

The Beach - the worst shot film

Blood Diamond - stupidest accent heard since the lad in Tango & Cash, until Winstone's in.........
The Departed - misscast overacting dungheap

DiCaprio's Inadequate in his 'wider range'; that's the thing

I don't think a great film actor can really destroy their legacy on screen.

They have enough of a body of work for it not to really matter.

No one remembers all the shite that Michael Caine has been in, they just remember the great films he made.

He's part of a generation of actors that will be sorely missed when they're gone, De Niro, Morgan freeman, Clint Eastwood, Samuel L Jackson, Jack nicholson. Who's replacing them, the rock, Tom Hardy?
Samual l Jackson. 😀. And Jack Nicholson has been gone a while marra.

Plenty of very fine actors around. Plenty
