Robinson suspended

Not sure what people expected here tbh.

Inevitably the ECB will be expected to comment or be asked about.

Surely in this current climate and modern world, nobody expected them to say.

‘ Well it was 8 years ago and he was a young man, so let’s just forget about it’

Even if they believe that, as a ruling body they have to be seen to do something about it.

Seems to be a fair bit of anger at this decision. The common man is getting really sick of cancel culture and a lot of the uber wokeness we seem to see in todays society imo.
This. And this is what breeds things like racism, sexism, etc., too. It’s essentially being forced down people’s throats continuously that racisms bad, sexism’s bad, when we do know that. You are creating divides which weren’t previously there by acting like this imo

Could have come out and immediately just slapped the lad with some match day fine and told him to crack on and grow up, or some community type thing. Suspending him like this means the whole circus will drag on for a while. Certainly they’ll wait until after the second test now

If he ends up being punished for this beyond already having to face the embarrassment of apologising then it kind of destroys the concept of rehabilitation really. He’s clearly not the same lad he was when he was 17 so should those decisions punish him for the rest of his life?

Indeed - you can't on one hand have a campaign which demands that people change their attitudes then at the same time not accept that a young man has changed his ways.

I think it’s fair to say they need to investigate further for any possible other instances before making early and possible rash decisions.

Could have acted like a professional organisation and done the investigation work during the last 4 days mind, ready to act as soon as the match finishes. Or am I expecting too much from the ECB? 😂

Whilst it’s an over the top decision, it was 100% inevitable unfortunately. That’s just the state of our society in general at present. Someone has to be held responsible for everything ever done. Almost embarrassing to be British at times the way our society goes on at some things
Or proud to be British in that we hold people to account for their obnoxious behaviour and don’t dismiss it as just a bit of bants.
FWIW on this one I think that the ban is OTT as he was a kid (at that age I was a proper bellend, saying very similar things as him but not all over social media) so some acknowledgement, apologies, awareness training and a bit of local charity work would be far more appropriate

For me, if he’s given a punishment of (or that includes) a fine, the ECB should pay it AND fine themselves double that sum for not having done their due diligence over his previous social media footprint.

As others have said, most employers nowadays vet the social media accounts of their prospective employees to make sure no harm can come to them or their business off the back end. For the ECB to not do the same in this day and age is a complete embarrassment for them. This is a massive own goal as far as I can see.

So what do employers have to do, go back through a persons entire internet history in case they have posted something that a person could find offensive. The lad apologised for some stupid tweets made over 10 years ago, people have to stop being so bloody offended and grow the fuck up.

The only people who seem to be getting offended are the "you can't say nuffink now" brigade TBF
downplaying or putting it in perspective -purely a subjective opinion.

Sounds like dogwhistle politics for their core vote
