You don't need to suspend someone to do an investigation.
Surely its common sense to do so given the subject matter?

The thing that makes it more ridiculous is Overton is likely the replacement. He made the tweets 8 years ago for fucks sake.
People say stupid shit when they're kids. I'm one of the most woke people about these days, but when I was in my teens I was sharing similar jokes. You learn as you grow up.
It's only come to light now, and he's clearly a different person. The way he fronted up after the First Day shows that.
It happened before he played for England, a long time before in fact.
The lads had an excellent debut and one of the few to come out with any credit, and now the ECB are throwing him down the shitter for being a prat before he knew the impact of his words.
Absolutely f***ing stupid.
Absolutely.Doesn’t seem prudent to slap a promising player with a suspension straight after a career-changing performance for their country.
Surely putting him on an awareness course would have sufficed.
He did get a ban, but I take your point obviouslyThe thing that makes it more ridiculous is Overton is likely the replacement.
Who was racist in a game as a professional more recently than Robinson tweets.
Massive double f***ing standards
Oh God I forgot about him. Nah, this thread is much better withoutTimes like this I wish Jardine didn’t have a lifetime ban as this is exactly the type of thread that would’ve been box office, probably resulting in a lifetime ban...
Can’t believe the ecb didn’t pick that up in any pre-selection check mind. Most larger employers would pick that up in background checks, would have thought the ECB being in the public domain would be doubly as thorough, especially given the large focus on BLM recentlyWhat the fuck did people think would happen? He would get off scot free?
Silverwood's new selection regime is looking a bit of a joke already. He might want to think about employing some subordinates to carry out background checks in future.
Same will no doubt happen again if he picks Overton in the second test.
I can believe it of them. Can’t believe the ecb didn’t pick that up in any pre-selection check mind. Most larger employers would pick that up in background checks, would have thought the ECB being in the public domain would be doubly as thorough, especially given the large focus on BLM recently
For once you are spot onCan’t believe the ecb didn’t pick that up in any pre-selection check mind. Most larger employers would pick that up in background checks, would have thought the ECB being in the public domain would be doubly as thorough, especially given the large focus on BLM recently

whole thing is utterly pathetic. culture of this country is worrying
Oh wellI didn’t know you were 12-18 years old
Spot on there mateWhilst it’s an over the top decision, it was 100% inevitable unfortunately. That’s just the state of our society in general at present. Someone has to be held responsible for everything ever done. Almost embarrassing to be British at times the way our society goes on at some things
My thoughts exactlyI'm just grateful that I'm old enough to not have my every word and action recorded for posterity. I'm sure we all said and did things as a teenager that we wouldn't decades later.
However... the ECB really have to be seen to take action here. I can't see any punishment being serious but it is an opportunity to send an educational message to youngsters
