Stick it in bags and take it to the tip, unless there is loads then hire a skip. How do you get rid of excess soil? Mine is thick clay like. I am planning on adding a gravel border to the grass along with a new path. Both will require removal of soil, soil that I don't really have anywhere to use.

Check out the rules of the local tip though, some will only allow a certain amount. My local one says 5 bags per visit and I got stopped with a boot full when I didn’t know. Some bloke came over to tell me I’d have to come back, but turns out there was no time limit between visits. In the end we agreed to pretend I’d driven out and back in again.
They have changed it now to one visit per car per day. Next time I’m tempted to get my wife to drive up with her car empty and mine full and say I’m using her car too for my quota but don’t want to get them both dirty. Might make them realise what a daft policy it is.
And where do you put the soil you’ve dug out to make this new hole? I guess another hole would be a good start.Dig a hole and bury it

I think soil goes in the garden waste so shouldn’t be limited. Be worth getting in touch with them to make sure mind.I know the Beach Street one has a limit of 6 bags of rubble per visit. I didn’t know if soil would be classed as that though.

Stuff it in your pants, then go for a walk around the block, occasionally shaking your trouser leg to let the soil fall out.How do you get rid of excess soil? Mine is thick clay like. Chronicle doesn’t state a limit on soil but does on rubble. Personally, I would class would as rubble.nope, your not supposed to put it in brown bin
It wouldn’t be more than a few large buckets, I just don’t want to spread it back over the lawn when I’m planning on doing everything I can to change the make up of the soil away from that.Chronicle doesn’t state a limit on soil but does on rubble. Personally, I would class would as rubble.

I remember when I dug the borders out in our front, filled about 45 rubble sacks. Was sick as when I finished. It wouldn’t be more than a few large buckets, I just don’t want to spread it back over the lawn when I’m planning on doing everything I can to change the make up of the soil away from that.
Yeah, it’s surprising how much you dig from a relatively small area, dug two tonnes out making a small wildlife pond.I remember when I dug the borders out in our front, filled about 45 rubble sacks. Was sick as when I finished.
I have fields to 2 sides of my house, I just dump it and rake it in along the fence line. How do you get rid of excess soil? Mine is thick clay like. Anyone know of local to Sunderland suppliers for bulk bag of Top Dressing with seed? I noticed Dandys and maybe Rolawn? Any others?Yes that will work
I'm East Mids based so can't help but even b&q should be able to do bags of lawn dressing or any of the garden centres.Anyone know of local to Sunderland suppliers for bulk bag of Top Dressing with seed? I noticed Dandys and maybe Rolawn? Any others?
Cheers
Emily's down Leechmere is open.We want to do some more gardening today since it's forecast to be quite nice. Obviously garden centres are still closed, but some shops like b&m and b&q have theirs open as the shop is. Is there anywhere else like that that we could get a few potting plants to put in the trough planters?
