Plenty of talking points over the years...

"The penalty decision was hotly disputed both at the time and afterwards, as Peter Lorimer recalled in his autobiography. "Don said out of the blue: 'If anybody gets anywhere near the box, get down.' Jimmy Greenhoff, who was quick when he was in full flight, set off on one of his jinking runs and was fully five yards outside the penalty area when he was brought down. By the time he had stumbled, fallen and rolled over a couple of times he was inside the box, and the referee, Ken Stokes, pointed to the spot so quickly that... it was almost embarrassing …"

"This was at a time when there was a lot of talk about referees being got at. I am not saying that Stokes was, but the issue begged close examination. Firstly, why did Revie issue that 'dive' instruction and, secondly, why did Stokes award a penalty that so clearly was not? Lots of things were happening in football that simply did not add up, and this was just another of those … Mulhall is to this day quite irate about the situation. The Sunderland old boys are 100 per cent sure that this was not a straight game. As players, you never know … I remember thinking in the dressing room after that game, 'That was a funny statement of Don's.' Maybe he thought that Ken had not so far given a penalty and might do so at the next debatable incident, maybe there were other factors."

I was there that night. The chant of "FIX" "FIX" "FIX" was the loudest I've ever heard.

I don’t mind them, being from a different generation I have more bitterness towards the EFL clubs who cried off the season yet jumped at chance to be in the play offs. Hope Leeds batter the vermin tomorrow.

So was I. That night and the one about a decade later with the Coventry/Bristol bullshit..worst two nights of supporting sunderland in 55 years
Sorry, well I remember Coventry but Bristol has slipped my mind. Can you remind me?
Johnny Crossan was class by the way. I think we've posted about this before, many years ago. Outside Notriannis one day, down the sea front, there's a dark green gleaning Ford with tail fins. So me and my mate are admiring it and Johnny Crossan leans his head on my shoulders.
'What you looking at lad's?' came the question.'Like my car?'
And it was him, a hero, I was about 11.

The Jimmy Hill night... Coventry V Bristol ...i 77. when they spent the last 15 minute playing passy the ball after they kicked off late..and we were relegated earlier that night losing at Goodison

Back in the day a second replay was almost always at a neutral ground. For instance in the famous 63-64, 6th round series with man utd..the first game was at Old trafford, the replay at roker and the second replay at huddersfield.
Imagine our club staff trying to organise tickets without internet now 😂

remember after the Man City fifth round 2-2 draw in '73..everyone just set off for the ground early morning to stand in line..lived in boldon back them. me and mates walked to Roker to get in line by 7 a.m..all the tickets sold out by noon...55,000 there that midweek.

Vic Halom Vic Halom Vic Halom.

Exactly what my old man gans crackers about no one has the time or inclination to think fir themselves anymore

All done on line etc

Having lived in West Yorkshire from 2008 for 4 years and having met a fair few Leeds season ticket holders we certainly aren't their favourite club either... the older ones in particular are still bitter as fuck about 73

My 3rd least favourite club behind the mag and boro. Although I guess support born from say the late 90s onwards probably are indifferent to one another, might rekindle some of the rivalry it we we're ever in a promotion battle with them.

I love you xxx

Never hear any of out lot saying they hate leeds, and vice versa.
Got to be of a certain age I suppose. Those of our lot who I've been around with for years hate them for sure, for all the reasons mentioned on here. I've been to Elland Road quite a few times, not just to see Sunderland, and there's always trouble, mostly because everybody hates Leeds and Leeds hate everybody. They're a right set of arrogant, belligerent, argumentative so and so's and that includes most of them who live there, not just the football fans. Nasty.
