Sending covid patients back to care homes wins that accolade
The care homes was a real fuck up which has been replicated in many countries. I’m not sure we would have had the capacity to keep every old person with covid in hospital until the very end of their treatment. I think the problem was that we were sending them back to care homes without testing so the care home would not know whether and how to isolate them . The training and ppe was also poor for care homes as was the constant changing of staff who were working at various care homes. Care homes are still receiving covid patients now but obviously the training, ppe and guidelines seem to be far better.
50,000 new nurses iirc
Hopefully when they are all vaccinated we will have a massive upscale in staff from the existing lot . It seems so many are off now with covid , isolating or being protected due to age and vulnerability etc .

Had to go to AE boxing day night had a painful UTI, Dr wanted to hospitalise me, absolutely no chance I was going in there, had it before got some antibiotics and sorted myself out ,just about coming out of it now
Hope you're feeling better, I've got a really painful side / back - I've either pulled it bad or it's something else but the pain is sickening at times.

We knew ( well had a bloody good idea) that this would kill old people very early. We try and vaccinate old people in homes every year to stop flu hitting a captive audience and this was no different. The elderly death rates are better now as we are more likely to protect that part of society now compared to 12 months ago. A massive clinical incident imo and I think our practice has changed for the better at looking after old people. We have killed hundreds of thousands of frail people over the years by spreading illness through care homes

Maybe just coincidence but I heard way more ambulances today than usual. There was one across the road but not sure what went on. But I've heard loads all evening. Does make you worry.

I live near chester Road and I'm hearing loads more than in normal times. Tbh it seems like one every five minutes sometimes. Been like that for a few weeks

Not been living here long but don't often hear them at all really.
It's a tough one to call because I remember this back in March/April in my tow, lots of activity. Then one day on a walk I saw what can only be described as a late 1980s ambulance whizz past blaring and then turn around and head back.

Same here in Birtley, but that could’ve just been accidents on the A1 as I can hear any siren on there from where I live but today it stood out and was noticeable how frequent it was.

She had a bit of a cold for a couple of days and lateral flow said negative. But it was shifting and she was hot so got a test and it's positive. What do people reckon, should me and the little one try to stay away, separate in the house? Or is that pointless now ?

The chances are that you have already caught the disease, but on the off chance that you haven’t then it’s worthwhile trying to avoid it just in case you or the little are more vulnerable to covid‘s effects. Set up a bedroom for her, with a chair and tv etc if she can be bothered to get up and watch. Keep her food utensils etc away from yours and the bairn. Clean the bathroom each time she uses it as covid in found in stools. If you have two bathrooms then allocate one just for her.

Keep the little one away from her as much as possible. If you need to go in the room, open the windows and wear a mask. Wash your hands when you leave the room. Wipe everything down with your choice of disinfectant too and just be as careful as you can.
