Roker Report ???

@Cack Stottie denied getting info from specifically the owners before I made this post but then has admitted that they do get fed bits of info from various sources who aren't the owner.

I may be in the minority but I don't want fanzines reporting on injuries or conducting interviews with owners, that's what's things like the Echo is for. I want fanzines to comment objectively on things from a fans perspective.
The owner probably doesn't even know what the score is from week to week never mind who's in the team ahead of kick off

Aye good point like. I enjoy WMS because the presenters are class and actually @GarethQ - who I presume is the one with the naturally cynical tone - actually seems to be the objective cynic and that's kinda what's needed from fan media

Fair enough mate. But when you do release things that the club haven't released you can't get arsey when people start thinking that you're in contact with people within the club.

To be fair I wasn’t getting arsey, just defending the outlet and people involved. Looks like most of the posts have been deleted but I’ve seen Rat insult the appearance of lads who do the podcast, I’ve seen him make unsubstantiated claims about us, I’ve seen others accuse us of stuff that’s untrue just in this thread. Whether people think we are shite or that they don’t enjoy what we do - that’s absolutely fine. But it’s not nice reading things that are either untrue or unkind.

I think a few writers from RR have popped up on this thread off their own back just to add that what I’m saying is true. The people involved are given free rein to do as they please. It’s just a platform for Sunderland fans to express themselves, whether that be through podcasting or writing.

Maybe they're a group of eternally optimistic fans that believe the best in the club until resounding evidence to suggest otherwise.

Plenty on here. Nout the matter with that, takes all sorts.

Since when has that been the point of a fanzine? Maybe at Liverpool a fanzine might struggle to find fault with way club being run. But Sunderland? What resounding evidence still being awaited that optimism is meaningful?

Yep. For me, WMS are a fanzine. They basically give their opinion on what is going on within the club. Roker Report is a weird hybrid of some opinion pieces but with a desperation of wanting to be seen as knowing what is going on inside the club.

Our current owner will know precisely what the scores on the pitch are though.

Do you define the point of a fanzine or do those create said fanzine?

Not sure it could have been made any clearer really, but ANYONE is free to write about whatever they like on RR. We publish between 20-30 letters a week that we get just from readers, interact with more people than any other outlet on social media and encourage debate and other fans to give their view points and get involved. If some people don’t like what we do then that’s totally fine. My view though is that a fanzine/site should exist to provide fans of any club with an outlet to express their opinions without someone telling them what they can and can’t say.

Having a go at the appearance of people involved is clearly not on, that goes without saying.

You're obviously free to write and say what you want but you were clearly getting a bit wound up and denying you got info but then admitted that you actually do.

For what it's worth, I think you'd be much better off if you didn't have so many contributors.

Not really bothered about being better off. The platform exists to give Sunderland fans a place to air their views. I’d happily take treble, quadruple the amount of contributors if I had the time and resources to edit all the stuff that would get sent our way.

See my previous post mate. You're free to do what you want but you'd be much better off reducing the quantity of content and focusing of being an actual fanzine.

By having so many contributors it makes it only one step up from a place like this. A bunch of disparate people trying their best to make they voice heard.

Many people have a go at the appearance of the club owners or/and celebrities. If the RR participants put their mushes in the public domain, they shouldn't be surprised at similar treatment however unsavoury it might be.

You seem to know lots about how to run a fan outlet! But I’ll pass on taking your advice. Couldn’t be happier or prouder of the platform that it gives other supporters to air their views. Whether ten people or ten thousand people read what we do, I wouldn’t care at this stage. The purpose of RR is to give ordinary fans a platform, which I believe it does.

Have you ever devoured a stottie filled with cack?

Really? Releasing injury news or having non objective interview with club owners is certainly not airing of views.

Like I say, you'd be far better of reducing your content and contributors and focusing on actually being a fanzine. It's currently half way between the Echo and this place.

Really dont see what the issue is with a platform whose sole existence is to allow Sunderland fans to express their views, encourage debate, find published news and help push it, do podcasts and interviewd solely on the club which we all support.
What can be bad about any of that? Whether its RTG, WMs, ALS or RR? Whats the problem?

Thanks for the advice but I’ll pass.

The sheer amount of people who read, listen and write in every single day tells me it’s valuable to a lot of Sunderland fans across the world. It isn’t everyone’s cup of tea and that’s fine. There are plenty of brilliant SAFC fan outlets, and new ones are appearing all the time. We even have Youtube now and I’m seeing loads of young people going down that route, which shows that fan outlets are evolving all the time.
I’ve smashed a baguette drizzled in cat’s piss.

:-O

It only takes one phone call man 😂
Yeah the club are in the business of answering a phone call to Roker report to give them stuff the echo don’t even have. We’ll agree to disagree. It’s clear as day man Roswell/charlie/Sloanes
