Positives

The main negative would be he would be a Donald appointment, that alone means I’d have absolutely no faith in him.

It looks like Johnson is the man so can we stop with all the negative stuff and focus on his positives.

I'll start.

At 39 he's still young and will have gained good experience managing at a higher level than we are now.
With respect He’s neither played nor managed at a club with this kind of weight and expectation. Wish him luck... the fact there’s no fans will help him. I hope he gives the kids a chance and drops the sloths in midfield like leadboots and Power.

how do you define good experience?

Bristol city fans refer to the ‘tombola’ as that’s what his team selections are like. The only time he’s had any success is when he has been forced into a makeshift team by injuries. I know this a thread of positives but there aren’t many. Apparently his football was awful too with the exception of 4 months. I did not realise that. Sounds like he gave a fantastic interview, so did Dave Hockaday at Leeds.

The interview was not with Johnson. It was the SpD. Are you up to speed mate?

I am up to speed. I don’t listen to any interviews as they are full of cliched drivel, I’m talking about Johnson’s job interview, which Roker Report suggest got him the job. Reading Bristol city fans views on him it’s no surprise the job interview went well, he talks very articulately almost scientifically about the game, to the point it rubs fans up the wrong way.

Underwhelming tbh but of those apparently on offer I would certainly rather have him than Cowley. Let's see how it goes - after all what choice do we have?

Absolutely none. It's very uninspiring but it's not up to us to appoint the manager. If Lee Johnson is announced, then whether we like it or not all we can do is back his appointment and hope for the best.

SO the other option is to just be negative form the very beginning without knowing how it will go? What is the point in that? I said it on another thread, I want to enjoy it again and if that means just taking a chance and a leap of faith in this appointment, then so be it. I don't see the point if it's just going to be another thing that gets me down - there's f***ing tons of that already.
If you’re able to fool yourself like that then I’m jealous. That sounds sarcastic but I’m being genuine.

No one wants to be disappointed, angry or miserable despite what people say on here. Fact is in the modern era we know far, far more about managers and players than we used to. We’ve got social media, myriad of stats websites to learn what we don’t know as well. There’s years of data to judge these appointments and we keep making bad decisions. It’s impossible for me to look at all that and still be positive and I’m genuinely trying to be.

If this comes off it will be a massive shock. We’ll get people coming on and telling people like me they were right all along and I’ll have to take my medicine. If it does I’ll gladly take it. But it would be one of the first times I’ve had to. To be successful here Johnson needs to pretty much double his win percentage that he’s managed at every club he’s been at. If he does then it’s 1 in a 100 and whoever made the appointment is either a visionary or incredibly lucky. There’s nothing he’s done to suggest he’s got what it takes.
Nigel Pearson's win percentage at his last three clubs were 21%, 32% and 32% but no one brings that up.
I did first time round actually. But when you put him alongside the other candidates he’s streets ahead. One of those was in the premier league where the vast majority of managers will have win rates between 30 and 40% for starters. He’s also actually improved other clubs and gotten promotion from this league and the championship (I think I’m right in saying).

Johnson’s best achievement is finishing in the top half. At least cook and the cowleys et al have a history of improving teams. They’ve done something that justifies another team looking at them.
