Which is exactly what we should be doing bringing through young players is going to be vital longer term. we are probably hitting 4/5 academy graduates in the squad already tbf. Hume, Gooch, Diamond, leadbitter, Neil.
It’s a shame we have sold off so much of our young talent in the last couple of years.

There seem to be a lot of differing views on that, Southampton don’t Loan out as they think they develop better staying there. Similar to what Congerton said when he was here.

Horses for courses, I think going out on loan did Embleton and Diamond a power of good,

That's true, but he did talk about a head of recruitment marra. I may have misheard/misinterpreted it, but if I did not, that is promising. People pulling in the same direction can only be good.
I read it differently...the emphasis is on bringing academy players through. Good in itself but I don't plan on watching this shit any longer.

Don’t disagree it would be my inclination as well but iv read a couple of interviews one was Southampton and I can’t recall the other which said they didn’t think it was the best way.
I suppose it varies. Really good and capable of competing for first choice and they’ll only really develop elsewhere at a closely matched club. In with a chance of progress but not first team ready and a loan is likely to be better. Not going to make it definitely better loaning out, the odd one will surprise and the others get some experience to help them get another club. The lads recently that have done well have mostly benefited from a loan and Pickford and Henderson certainly did.

Probably right and the best system is probably a bespoke on depending on the individual circumstances.

As with the vast majority of safc managerial appointments I’ve no opinion either way. Id never heard of him until he was mentioned on here as a possible a week or so ago. Nivver heard of the SpD feller from Brum either.
I’ve been borrowing this line from Lou Reed for a while now to use when people have new jobs, new houses, new relationships etc: “It’s the beginning of a great adventure”. It also applies to football club managers. Strap me to the mast....

There's also the Frank Herbert one from Dune - "A beginning is a very dangerous time".

Congerton spoke well initially but it went from bad to worse. None of us has a clue how well this fella will do. I was underwelmed whenI heard he was the appointment but willing to give him a chance and judge on performance. Wait and see but action not words please.

We are singing from a very similar hymn sheet marra. I don't watch it now, as am totally against Donald.

However, I like what the lad had to say. I do see a, welcome, change in direction. And, to be honest, would give it time as I think it is a good direction for the club. To be honest, think this season is a write off anyway, and we may take another one to go forward. That is hard to take. However, this is the best opportunity to build foundations in stone. Whether they can deliver it

How realistic is it though? We have already sold off our most talented 15-18 year olds so it’s probably going to be at least another 3/4 years before we get a decent bunch coming through.
