I mean, the last time I had a dose of the flu I was physically incapable of getting out of bed for the best part of a week. I didn’t need to self-isolate or go for a test to tell me that I had said dose of the flu, because the virus just made me completely incapable of interacting with anyone in a public setting, and the not being able to get out of bed part, when I’m normally an active and energetic person made me completely cognisant of the fact I had the flu. The idea of going to a bar and getting drunk was completely out of the question.

I don’t dispute that Covid can well prove lethal for those with serious underlying health issues and those people very much need shielding. For everyone else though? Come on.

Over half a year in to this, and you haven't come to grips with the notion that people can be asymptomatic but contagious?

It's just been reported in The Sun that most of the North East is under a local lockdown from tomorrow night, including not being able to go on holiday with members of another household. So, if you've gone with someone you don't live with, you've done it at the right time.

Me mam is 82 she has no underlying conditions or illnesses.
She was the youngest of 7 her siblings mostly lived until their late 80’s.
She worked and paid taxes all of her life. She’s rarely taken anything back from the NHS.
She’s the closest family I have, and you are pretty much suggesting she doesn’t matter.

If it's any comfort, Janey, most of the elderly who have picked up this virus have got through it, particularly those with no underlying conditions (such as dementia).

Yeah I agree, it was just the way the poster was saying why are we doing all this to save lives of older people who are going to die in the next few months anyway

Completely agree with you. It's quite conceivable that someone losing their life from this would have lived up to 30 years longer otherwise, and there is the moral question: what sort of society throws the most vulnerable overboard when they need people's help, including knowing they will spend their last living days alone and frightened? Not one worth having I'd say.
