For those who are self-employed...

17th August.

bit scaremongering going on saying people who apply will be subject to an inspection next year

To be fair I’m not agaist that !!!

I’ve been affected due to the fact no child care so literally been lucky to get a weekend in a week !!!

The wife hadn’t had a day off though the full thing

They haven’t the resources to do any real in depth investigations on a massive scale.... saying that, anyone they do catch they’ll not be using lube as they stick the fine up your arse

With the amount of money involved it will be worth them investing in extra man power, to investigate the claims. All they need to do is ask for 3/6 month bank statements and corresponding invoices to cross reference the date paid.

So the criteria is if your income has been affected on July 16th or something?

my wages have returned to normal now, however went 12 weeks without any payments, April May and June.

Can I apply?

I don’t think its classed as income been affected it’s more your business been affected you were still allowed to take money but was your business affected

It's all confusing.

My invoices for work were spread out over April, may, June and July taking less than I usually would but had them all paid end of July. If they are cross referencing when payment was made on bank statements it looks like I took £7k in July but that is actually spread over about 4 months.

I went 10/12 weeks without being paid, had to take mortgage/ loan breaks which will incur additional cost overall.

wages are back to normal since July however it’s going to impact on my yearly income

My missus (no) is a self-employed Travel consultant (homeworker) and she will be applying for this additional grant.

There is no way that HMRC can justifiably claim that anyone linked to the travel industry (or hospitality, for that matter) is unaffected by this. People are still booking for next year but there is little or nothing going through for this year - hasn't been for months - and that is a massive reduction in revenue for all concerned.

The nature of the job means you have to put money aside when the sales are good to cover the lean months. They've all been lean months this year, so even if they compare August/September/October this year to the same months in years past and say there's relatively little difference, it won't take into account that any extra money made in those previous years went towards covering the November/December/January period and that will be nigh on impossible to do this year.

So f@@k them - it's getting claimed, or Christmas is cancelled this year.

They are , large new team being set up - they’ve taken a chunk of our office space to accommodate

Ironically I was working In somebody house today who works at dwp in longbenton, and they have been told they are to work from home for the next 18 month as office space is being freed up at the longbenton site, to house extra HMRC and universal credit staff, to sort through the furlough payments and anticipated extra universal credit claims.

They need to clarify who can apply imo.It needs to be set in stone. Can't have people applying, getting paid, then the govt setting up new teams at huge expense to claim it back. It's just so wrong, on many levels.

Martin Lewis was on at the time of the first claim saying if your business is effected in any way by Covid then you can claim. Even if it is only a slight effect. Is this not now the case?

It seems so, but there seems to be a lot of scaremongering going on with this second claim. Most of it will be bullshit mind.
