Pubs that don’t track and trace

My local (which I’m in now) takes my name and phone number every time I come. It’s also pretty well Covid set up, decent distancing, table service via an app.

Mine also..

I thought it was government rules that you had to do track and tra e as in name and number.

Worth a call to the council who. An go round and have a word

No mate. The guidelines are worded using "should" not must. Data protection is too much of a minefield, especially after GDPR was introduced.
Spoons probably have the biggest footfall of all and even they CBA. Utter joke.
So you've been in?

They had a piece of paper as you walked into a pub a couple of weeks ago that they wanted your name, address and phone number on.
It was there for anyone to see that walked in.
That cannot possibly be the correct way to do it.

It's optional if you want to leave your details. Under GDPR they can't make you leave details. It's the same as when you sign up for something online you used to have to opt out, now you have to opt in. The sign in book is a token for when the council or the plod turn up.

What would the point of that be?

Doesn't help much with the track and trace, I'd hope someone wouldn't phone the police asking for him.
There is no point to it.
Or did I just choose the wrong fairly tale character perhaps Pinocchio would be more apt.

Had half a dozen pints in my local last night (ten bob millionaire place near the eye infirmary) and no track and trace info was requested at all come to think of it. Plenty hand sanitiser available though.

Neither GDPR or the Data Protection Act 2018 prevent pubs from collecting customer’s personal data for the purposes of Track and Trace. They do, however, place obligations on pubs as the controllers of that personal data - obligations that pubs should already be familiar with whether from a simple employer perspective or in connection with their marketing activities.
Pubs that have a ‘visitors book’ accessible to all are probably skating on thin ice in terms of Data Protection compliance, but whether any enforcement action would be taken in the current circumstances is uncertain.
The simplest, safest, solution is probably to have a visitor’s book completed by staff (and not accessible by all and sundry) or just have individual slips available to customers to complete their details which the pub then collates.
