New Music Releases Thread

Heard a song calked 'Bound' off Daniel Blumberg's album that was very good. Noticed 6 songs were available on spotify as an EP yesterday and thought it was the 'album' streaming early, but there's 9 songs there now. Will be listening to it over weekend.

Couldn’t find the Black Thought album on Apple Music, perhaps delayed because of the Malik news?

On a brighter note,I’d forgotten that the NOFX/Frank Turner split LP was out today @Crayola-Kid

I know you all were expecting the album at midnight. My bad y’all. But this delay is for a good reason. Big announcement coming soon. New release date to follow. Love'

Guessing he'll be putting some sort of tribute on the album, maybe an unreleased verse or a sample or something.

Yep, thanks! I'd forgotten as well but got an email today that mine is on the way.
Ganser - Just Look at that Sky. Noisey art/post-punk. There's a bit of Savages in there and maybe Sonic Youth. Favorite of the week so far, but I'm a a bit behind.
NOFX/Frank Turner - West Coast vs Wessex. Does what it says on the tin. Turner's songs go pink/punk-pop and vice versa. Obviously I like it.

A lot of what I'd probably call dream pop this week...
Dizzy - The Sun and Her Scorch. Canadian dream pop. Sunny and enjoyable.
Song Sung - This Ascension Is Ours. Irish lasses based in NYC who have been involved with the Killing Eve soundtrack (presume that's how I got this recommended). Very relaxing. Like it.
Soft Palms - S/T. having trouble with this one. Californian duo. Album is meant to be out today, but I'm only getting access to 2 songs on Spotify and one on Bandcamp. Those songs are decent but I'd like to hear the album...
Madeline Kenney - Sucker's Lunch. Some dream pop but mainly guitar-y or synthy indie with help from Wye Oak and Lambchop. This one is very promising.

Couple of oddballs...
Bell Witch / Aerial Ruin - Sygian Bough. Doom metal and "dark folk" collaboration. Listened to the first track, Bastard Wind, which sounded more epic (20 mins) than the results of a night on the beer and curry. Might give it another crack (no pun) in smaller doses for work background
Rawhide's Clint Eastwood Sings Cowboy Favorites - a limited vinyl repress available today

Best thing NOFX have done in years IMO, unfortunately Fat Mike is following it up with another Cokie The Clown solo album. Frank’s version of Perfect Government is the highlight for me though.

Any idea who the guest vocalist on “Glory Hallelujah”? Sounds like Mo Powell (Save Ferris) but I think it’s probably more likely to be a Bombpop or a Bad Cop/Bad Cop.

It was released a couple of weeks ago but I've just got round to listening to 'No Place Like Tomorrow' by Virginia Kettle. She is one of the eight members of Merry Hell who are a folk band from Wigan containing Virginia, her husband John and his two brothers among the ensemble. You really couldn't make it up a folk band form Wigan containing four Kettles.

Anyway, it's rather listenable if you like that sort of thing or if you prefer your folk music a little more lively then have a listen to Merry Hell.

I don't, and I couldn't find anything online either, just one review that says it has lots of guest vocalists on it, but it doesn't name any of them. Maybe it'll say on the album - I'll let you know if it does. Thought it was great on first pass. (Disclaimer, NOFX didn't do "pink" versions of Frank's songs as I claimed in my first post!)

Picked up the new Ringo Deathstarr album, which I've been listening to a lot this week. One which may be for the Swervedriver fans (like me)
Protomartyr has really really grown on me. Excellent stuff.
Was going to suggest to Maidenhead United that they use "Maidenhead" as their run out music, but the lyrics aren't really uplifting enough

Apparently, Kenyan extreme metal is a thing now. The Guardian gave this lot their world music album of the month accolate today (album is out next week):

They're quite intense!

Really enjoying first couple of singles released by Muck Spreader. Got a real sleazy sound to it, bit Warmduscher / Meatraffle / fat white family sounding.

Stuff I've listened to this weekend:

Charley Crockett - proper old school outlaw country. Very good!
The Psychedelic Furs - one of my favourite bands of my youth. Pleased they're back, it's good but not sure it's quite as good as their first four albums.
Fontaines DC - the album has its own thread. It's a lot darker than the debut, may well be a grower.
Land of Talk - good, vaguely psychedelic indie rock.
Suzie Stapleton - excellent. She's Australian but based in Brighton. For fans of Nick Cave, Mark Lanegan, PJ Harvey etc. A great blend of blues, gospel and gothic rock.
Mike Polizze - really good, reminds me a fair bit of Kurt Vile, which is not too surprising as they're mates and KV plays on the album.
Daniel Blumberg - very accomplished, slightly odd and eccentric. He's carving an interesting path for himself.
Alex Izenberg - enjoyably eccentric chamber pop from an LA recluse (apparently).

Album of the week: probably a tie between Suzie Stapleton and Mike Polizze.

Cocktails - Catastrophic Entertainment. Very catchy and summery garage power pop from San Fran. Tbh, I thought I'd posted about this, or someone else (prompting me to listen), but search tells me no... apologies if that's not the case.
Gulch - hardcore punk with some decent hooks. Hardcore is very marmite, so if you generally don't like it, give this a miss.

Catching up on some other odds and sods. Gave Bad Moves a go earlier (on one of @Arkle's lists from a few weeks back. Not bad. Ticks a lot of my girl indie guitar pop boxes, but it was lacking a little edge for me
