if travel abroad is allowed anytime soon

What worries me a bit are the thermal cameras they want to scan folk with. What if its just a really hot day & get a bit sweaty? Would you then not be allowed to board plane, and lose entire cost of holiday cos insurance won't pay claiming its covid related?
Your core temperature doesn’t change on a hot day

If that’s with Ryanair, good luck with that. They are currently loading my in box with offers on flights to Spain and Italy in July (?) but haven’t refunded my cancelled flight from early April yet... and I’m not holding my breath about that. 85% of people offered a refund by Ryanair haven’t received anything.
With easyJet, is a gamble I know probably wouldn't risk it with expensive flights but if it happens great, if not I'd be happy to just exchange flights for another tbh, already had it happen to an easyJet flight last month and they sent me a voucher code to use within a year, I get what your saying though I've had the same emails from Ryanair!

Thinking about driving to South of France. We qualify for getting in and out.

How do you qualify if you don't mind me asking?
I know your missus is French but I thought you could only enter the country if you were either a French national or you were returning to your primary residence.
My missus and kids are down there but I was under the impression I couldn't return until the border restrictions are lifted.

It'll be because his wife is a French citizen I assume. I think they won't stop spouses or something.

I guess it could just say you were moving there. What happened to freedom of movement anyway?

Makes you feel hotter

That's because more blood is flowng to your skin which can cause heat to leave the body. Feeling and being can be massively different things when it comes to body temperature. You get a high temp and you start shivering (known as rigors) and you'll tell folk you are freezing when the opposite is true. Opposite effect can happen when you're hypothermic as well

Citizens and spouses are allowed in. You have to sign an attestation however and I'm not entirely comfortable with it if I'm honest.

The travel agent we’ve booked through are only offering refunds or free rescheduling for holidays up to 11th June so we are having to play the waiting game at the moment.

We don’t want to go now. Not because we are scared of the ‘rona but because fuck all is open. We are meant to be going to New York - we’ve already had a refund for the Broadway show tickets, and the Natural History Museum are talking about not reopening until November. We’d be wandering around empty streets for a week!

You off to Parga Town mate ? Went couple years back , lovely place

It's very important to me like Dave. I'd go as far as saying it's one of the highlights of my year. Holidaying in England is a piss poor alternative in truth.
Only if you want to lie by a pool and stuff your face with food and drink for two weeks.
Is there any medical advice on swimming pools and how easily the virus could travel within them?
They'll be closed.
People go on like their fortnight in the sun is a vital part of life and they’ll go to any lengths to have it. Just stay home this year and holiday in Britain for once ffs.
It'll be the same ones going about every day life pretending there's not a global pandemic still happening and that the last ten weeks didn't actually happen.
I hope they enjoy their six hour check-in, temperature scan, sitting on a plane wearing a mask, potentially getting quarantined at the destination airport, potentially getting quarantined at their destination hotel, having someone usher them round their hotel for two weeks reminding them of the 2m rule, getting served their pint in a plastic glass by someone wearing a visor, sitting drinking it round a closed pool 2m away from everyone, with someone watching over you at all times - then having the same rigmarole for the flight out on the way home to then have to spend 14 days at home upon their return.

No thanks.

Ryanair profits FELL by 30% in 2019. They only made €1 Billion.

Forecasts (I’ve googled) predicted, on 6th April, an annual profit in 2020 at a similar level (that’s a billion euros) despite the global pandemic.

I’d like the £350 they owe me. I’d sooner have that before I risk another couple of hundred pounds.

Good luck with using your vouchers. I hope they pay for a whole flight to somewhere you actually want to go at a time you want to fly during a period you’re allowed to travel without requiring to quarantine when you get there or when you come back.

We can travel throughout Europe again to countries with open borders from the 15th, no quarantine/negative Covid test required on return to CZ from everywhere apart from the Uk and Sweden

Sounds class. Where do I sign up?

The UK is simply not geared up for summer holidaying. Far too congested and expensive for any prolonged holiday stay imo.

Well that sounds shit so wouldn't be going if that was the setup. It won't be tho so all is good.

You keep on burying your head in the sand there, if you think everything is going to be just 'normal' you're in for a bit of a shock.

I'll wait and see how it pans out.

If things are looking a bit better after Christmas I'll go and have my two weeks in the sun while you freeze your bollocks off here.

You seem angry mate. I might go away at Christmas aswell. Just to annoy you further.

Why is "going back to normal" and your ridiculous imagined holiday the only 2 options available?
