Knee is balsed again, not even from running but just from doing DIY all weekend. Bit frustrating but I'm going to have to just take the hit and be patient for it to get better. Falling into a bit of a running slump lately but will keep cracking on.

I'd also recommend Born to Run, Running with the Kenyans and Endure. First two are very popular like so might be telling you what you already know...
No i appreciate it and will follow up with them after this , which is 8 hours long.

David Goggins book is still the best thing i've ever read, not all about running but fantastic motivation for both running & overcoming challenges. The cover is in his navy seal outfit, but he is more well known for being an endurance athlete.

I’m having issues too, almost a week with no running now, going to leave it for another week and see how it feels, perfect time to rest up really.

These guys have started their calendar from September, which currently I think is realistic. The north york moors ultra was my first attempt an Ultra and a DNF, I might sign up to that - there are 10k through Ultra available. They're a good set up if a little expensive.

This is their Covid-19 policy for cancellation & also how the race would go ahead under social distance restrictions, which I think is quite good:

Does Goggins book have anything more in that he has said on Podcasts? I've heard him on a bunch and find him bit repetative. His 48 hour challange is a bit mental mind. would add in Rich Roll's finding ultra as well.

Could anyone help with ideas for a tempo run for a sub 20mins 5k?

From what I understand I warm up then I need to run at about 30 seconds slower than race pace for a few miles? Then cool down.

I’ve done a bit of reading up on this, the logic I’ve read seems to be run 4 miles comfortably at around 6:45 - 6:50 per mile, if I’m doing a session like that I tend to run 2 miles at my desired pace, then have a 2 minute interval, then do another 2, but that’s just my preference.

His upbringing which to me is usually boring, actually i found fascinating and harrowing in this case. Also he talks in a lot more detail about the challenges getting through seal training, he does the 100 miler through to Badwater stuff in more detail and also talks through Delta Force and the pull up world record.

If you're a bit sick of maybe it would be too much, but the audio is read by someone else and the end of each chapter the narrator and Goggins' discuss it. Since it's my favourite book and biggest inspiration, i'd say give it ago and then close him off if you want.

I liked Rich Rolls book overall although did it on Audio as well and found he talked a bit too dramatically, I did also find the vegan stuff difficult to get through as he is quite condescending about it, but overall i liked it.

Thanks very much. I haven’t been running for more than 4 miles since the lockdown started but I guess the idea is at least 2 miles at under race speed i.e. at the lactic threshold.

When I’m training for a time like to run my sessions at the pace our slightly quicker

400s at 6min mile
800s at 6.10

Seeming a 20min 5k is 6.26 pace you get used to the short fast pace and how it feels, when that last mile of a quick 5k kicks in you need that feeling of being tired and working Mg hard, I find it’s all in my head as the pace stays the fast but the head is telling me that’s it’s to hard

Thank you I am doing 10x400m and 6x800m in other sessions. This week has a tempo run and I don’t usually do them.

I really like Rich Roll and it was his and Jureks books that started me looking at being vegan, funnily enough he gets a bunch of hate off some people for some of the guests he has on, recently had some meat farmers on. Goggins has been on Rich Rolls podcast twice, he seemed to be the one that gave him the intial break but he then said the same old stuff on Joe Rogan as well but they did say the way the audio book was done was really good. I'm curently reading Ronnie O'Sullivans book Running which is his memoir but he talks about running more than snooker so far.

Tempos are a bit tricky I find, I would usually run at 6.40 but sometimes go faster and sometime slower depending on how far I aim to run, sometimes it’s not even worth looking at the watch and just running at a pace you know you can hold for 45mins but it is not easy

Ok cheers when I run at race speed I go flat out so I think that I understand how I need to feel during a ‘tempo’ run. The training plan says to run 3 miles @6:40 pace so I’ll give it a go.

If you're having hamstring problems, you should probably take it easy.
Sound advice and the only advice

If you can tempo run 3m at 6.40 then you should be running 5k around 18.30, when I do 3m at 6.40 I run around 18.30-18.50 for 5k
