This, and I'm one of the above. It isn't a political statement, it isn't an endorsement of what's happening, it's a thank you to the staff going above and beyond in terrifying times where people are exhausted and putting themselves at risk trying to preserve life. It does make a difference.Said it before, I know nurses, I have mates whose partners are nurses, my missus is a Dr. None of them expect any of the clapping etc, but every single one of them appreciates it.
Obviously each to their own and all that. I‘m personally invested so naturally biased with my opinion on the situation.
To an extent I agree. Fair pay is required in certain roles, but putting everyone under the NHS banner is wrong....I suspect certain areas and staff in hospitals have it much worse than a lot of others from my limited experience. It's not even about pay, its about the overall general working conditions.
Cuts lead to unhappiness
This leads to staff leaving
Then new staff won't join because of the working conditions
You end up with low staff but thousands of advertised vacancies. It's a vicious circle all because the tories set the wheels in motion years ago.
Fair pay is one part. But its about the whole picture. People have other career options when they are 20. If the nhs is seen to be a bloody hard place to work, where there will be staff shortage and unhappy people around you, many will choose another job. After ten years, you end up with...... Exactly what we have now.
Idiots clamouring to get to Westminster bridge and ignoring social distancing to get their 20 second tik tok of being an all round good egg another example.
Put it this way. If the ask was to write an letter to a po box, almost nobody would do it. It isn't, largely, about thanking the hc workers. Its fine as a concept although it makes the dogs go nuts. Doesn’t really change anything but if the nhs staff appreciate it then great. I’ve got family members who work for the nhs but they’ve not mentioned it, they’ll be at work when it’s going on.
As with anything it’s becoming a tool for people to try and one up each other on social media. Recording themselves going further or recording others to shame them for not getting involved.

I clapped the NHS for saving lives and there is nothing unpalatable about that you f***ing bellend.
People are clapping the NHS workers not the politics and funding.
because after this the public will be asking a lot of questions..
It may not help them pay the bills but I know it certainly puts a smile on their faces and makes them feel appreciated.
I did it for a few weeks, but round our way it’s turning into a ‘who can do the most elaborate cheering’ etc uploading to Facebook ‘look at us being amazing cheering the bestest’
Every thing seems to turn into a social media craving for popularity...
My neighbours told me I should get my drum kit out on the front lawn and play....I declined because at 8pm some people are trying to get their kids to kip....and it’s not about me...it’s saying thanks to nhs staff and I don’t want to be filmed thanks.
When social media is used for the greater good, like that old fellah who’s raised millions and only wanted to raise a grand...I’m all for it, and he’s been amazing, true legend..
I stayed in last night and I raised a glass, it’s now down the the govt to pay them their true worth both financially and in support, because after this the public will be asking a lot of questions..
Because it's a fun time when you can spend time with the family and friends and get presents and eat and drink etcIf you're not religious 8n what way do you actually celebrate Christmas?
Read my reasoning....^^^
Doesn't appreciate the hard working NHS staff.

Mind, not leaving the house is helping the NHS.There aren’t any NHS workers where I live so that wouldn’t apply here.
If people truly live the NHS so much, they should do something that actually helps
Do you go round asking every person clapping if they voted Tory ?no issue at all. just find it interesting that there appears to be millions clapping every week, and 17 million voted tory last december, but no one will admit to occupying both groups
It literally woke my 5yr old last night.
As for your last point, don't worry, this will all be burried by the tories. There will be countless reasons why the NHS can't be properly funded for the next decade. And the public will lap it up, as always

I’ve already seen people on Facebook this morning...
Some bloke put up the video of him
Setting up his drums before hand ffs....who cares?!
Exactly. And when the restrictions are lifted, people will move on very quickly.Aye it is. But it’s not like there has been a mass awakening of people saying “I’m going to put myself through incredible hardship to alleviate the burden on already stretched NHS resources” - they have no choice but to stay in; it’s forced on them.
Do you go round asking every person clapping if they voted Tory ?
And why should folk be ashamed to admit to voting Tory....very strange
