What are you doing with your extra time in the house?

Haven’t long bought the house and it needed a stack of work doing. Sparkies, pipe benders and mud chuckers have all been in - way out of my comfort one with that lot.

I’m sorting out the garden, chopping a load of logs and kindling and fitting new flooring to a couple of rooms.

Keeps me off the streets.

No idea of your background interests so will just throw a few ideas out:

- Upskill - I am already an expert Excel user and deliver Excel/finance courses but data visualisation is the next big trend. I wasted hours on flourish.studio last week. If you like Excel then get on it! Excel will no longer be enough for new finance grads and they will need to know some Python. I am progressing well through various youtube/udemy courses.
- Become an expert in something narrow - I follow the airline industry/stocks so could easily waste two hours looking at these without lifting my head. You could become an expert in anything you fancy as long as it consumes your interest.

- The missus and daughter are dancing to Oti a few times a week,
- Whole family doing Jo Wicks @ 9 each day - it's alright and gives structure. Daughter also doing Pamela Reif online.
- English National Theatre - put a load of free stuff up - stuff you would likely never watch.
- Missus reading animal farm with middle boy - never usually would have the time.

All of this, work, cooking and walking the dog make the days fly by.

PlayStation. Although daughter has rather annoyingly decided she wants to play it quite a lot of the time, which leaves me twiddling my thumbs.

I've started my garden landscaping project. Unfortunately, everywhere is shut so at the minute it looks like The Somme.

I went to all the trouble of laying old style paving slabs in the Southeast corner so I could buy a potting shed. Shed deliveries are a f***ing joke. Some aren't delivering until further notice (fair enough) and some want us to allow 3-4 weeks for delivery. You f***ing what?

However, I did get a 65 inch TV for the garden room - that's what us unemployed are meant to do, aye? Buy massive flat screen TV's? f***ing class watching Judge Rinder in there now.

I’m living alone, quite enjoyed it but just starting to struggle

it’s lack of company but also the idea I’m not being productive enough I guess, thinking should work on CV or learn new skill, but lacking motivation a bit

Been reading lots, computer games, baking!

anything I’m missing out on?!?
I'm learning a new language - German. The app Duolingo is excellent - loads of languages, only 10 minutes a day. I'm into my 3rd week now.

Skill Share website is worth a look, great for times like this to learn random skills. Curiosity stream also good for documentaries.

With kids it actually feels like I've got less time to myself than before.
This. Working full time from home and “home schooling” 2 kids (not much schooling is taking place because the wife and I are both working full time) isn’t easy, especially as we both work in public sector finance so are both into year end work (although her deadlines are a few weeks earlier than mine).

I have had a Homebrew on the go every Saturday for the last 3 weeks but I’ve run out of room now so the next one will have to wait at least another 3 weeks.

Honestly? Watching shite on tele, eating a load of crap and masturbating. I'm on my own for now because last week I was visiting sites for work. Be back with the missus and kids on Wednesday and then I'll basically be responsible for keeping the littleun entertained, and I'll be his teacher for a bit after the Easter holidays. So I'm making the most of my peace and quiet for now!

Looking after my 13 month old daughter which is wonderful! Loving the time were getting to spend together that under normal circumstances we wouldn't.

Without her I'd be bored shitless and no doubt ploughing my way through a list of jobs the missus had drawn up.

Having gone to the gym for over thirty years it is really getting to me. Have started going out on bike, no gym gear to be bought at a sensible price and have ordered some resistance bands and trx training straps online but on the flip side in the grander scale of things everybody I know is safe and well.

Still working every day (home office) and surprised how busy I've been actually.
In addition I started building myself a workbench in the garage yesterday and have got myself an adaptor that turns my drill into a circular saw and a metal cutter/ grinder so gonna do a bit hobbying stuff. It's right next to me beer fridge as well so what could possibly go wrong.

yeah people with families are having a totally different experience to me for sure

my sister is busier than ever working and looking after her kids
Honestly, I’m exhausted looking after the kids and trying to squeeze a job in as well. All personal hobbies or fun has pretty much evaporated.

I did start painting by numbers just to focus the kind and try to stop stress a while ago but I’m usually too knackered on an evening to do it. I know some child free friends have a bit more time and have cleaned their houses and started to learn a new skill. I’m jealous.

Exercising, losing weight, reading, watching telly. That’s about it really. I’ll be slightly disappointed to go back to the office as I’m more productive at home as I don’t have people asking me stuff all day.

For the next one, you could perhaps consider Shared Parental Leave?

Teaching myself to play the bass finally after years of wanting to do it. From a practical point of view, getting desks, cupboards and an attic decluttered (sort of), those jobs that get put off every time. I have a couple of flat pack things too which I hate, might even look at those. I am working from home too so evenings and weekends are those times for me to do all of the other stuff.
