Coronavirus compendium thread

They just cancelled the Napoleon event here (golfe Juan is where he returned after exile) for Sat and Sun... Ffs it's held in the open air on the beach. If this keeps up the cannes film festival and Monaco GP have no chance of going ahead

This is my biggest worry, the social outbreak. It wont take much for people to go batshit. Did a run on the shops for supplies today just in case. Highly unlikely it will get to that point but its cost me nothing other than the cost of shopping in the event that it does.
Tbf that’s no different to what’s going on already people don’t need much excuse to be xenophobic these days. Can see ridiculous panic buying happening though.

And if it comes to it I can’t blame people for going insane if they can’t do anything to enjoy themselves. Might as well have massive undercover “end of the world” orgies and shit

So far, on threads about coronavirus, you have posted authoritatively that:

- antibiotics are used to treat viruses (they’re not)
- viruses are bigger than bacteria (they’re not)
- bacteria can only reproduce like humans, needing a mummy and daddy bacterium (utter nonsense)

Given the level of concern at the moment, and your absolute lack of even basic understanding of the topic, do you not think it might be better to learn a little more and post a little less?
1 I have never said that antubiotics are used to treat viruses, not ever.

Now let's see: Your first post implied we were all fucked. Your second post seemed to say; 'Ah fuck it, if you get it, you get it.' And despite what I have been told repeatedly on this thread, it is invariably the very elderly or those with underlying health conditions that die. It's not that f***ing bad man, it's not black death - it's a mild flu that kills the already weakened.

No, we aren't all fucked by any stretch, but it is definitely more serious than many want to contemplate and more serious than a mild flu. For your second point that is exactly the point I was trying to make - if you get it you get it, there probably isn't an awful lot that can be done to prevent it due to the way the virus spreads and manifests, so life may as well carry on as normal because containing the spread of the exposure is pretty much impossible.

IMHO it's f***ing ridiculous that the F1 race in Vietnam is going ahead. I can't think of anyone better to spread a pandemic than the jetset who attend F1 races. Well, maybe apart from GPs jetting all over the place on holiday just cos they're now on six figure salaries.
Why has northern Italy had a lot of the virus ? Have they tracked people travelling in from China etc ?
With absolutely no evidence to back it up I suspect the fashion trade. Clothes designed in Milan but made in China.

The mortality rate among other things is still unknown. Hence the emphasis on containment.

Yes, I know that, and that is one reason why I was saying it is more serious than people were considering. However, my original point was that the WHO statisticians will already have run the calculations and the way that the virus does not show symptoms for 14+ days means that it will spread geometrically in mathematical terms. There is pretty much no way to contain it if the virus transmission rate (which is still also unknown) is as high as it is first appearing. By the time someone has quarantined themselves due to symptoms showing, they will have already exposed multiple others to the virus, some who will then contract the virus and go on to expose others before they then quarantine themselves etc.

Had a woman in work today saying everyone should be fitted with masks and tested the masks etc how to work with them, she told us it’s nothing to do with Coronavirus (nhs by the way)
