Being Overpaid by Work

A lad I worked with joined the company in the January, and was put in a manpower pool, to go where needed as and when. Didn't hear a word for them for a year! The lucky kernt.

This happened to me when I left Sunderland Poly. They gave me my final 2-weeks pay packet (this was a time when you got paid actual money in a brown envelope) and then called me to say my final 2-week pay packet was ready for collection.

I tried telling them repeatedly that they'd already paid me but they wouldn't have it and told me to come pick it up.

So I did but I knew it was only a matter of time before they realised their mistake so I didn't even open it.

Sure enough a week later I got a call from them saying they'd screwed up and could they have it back please.

The work twat somehow ended up with both his and another blokes wages paid into his account for a couple of months at his last job. Their surnames had one letter different and same first names. He’d just started and the other bloke had been there 20 years and nivver checked his account just checked the payslip. He left to start at our place before they rumbled him. They rang his mobile dozens of times but he wouldn’t answer unknown numbers so he heard nowt else from them.
I thought he was talking shot till his mate left the first firm and came to ours a few months later and told us all the story.

Happened to me once, luckily enough as I still get paid by cheque (work is still in the dark ages) I informed work straight away and they took my cheque and wrote out a new one.

I’ve paid the lads too much by mistake on a Friday and they always txt to tell me the same/next day etc.Always tell them to keep it for being honest.
Everytime I’ve been overpaid I’ve always owned up,as I guarantee when the payroll the following week is done or the CIS needs paying to the tax man once a month it’ll be spotted then.Trust will be gone and your card marked for the sake of a couple of quid?Mental to even contemplate it.

Trust gone ,exactly right , Gilly knows his onions.

This just happened to me so I rang up to inform them about it. Bloke on the phone seemed genuinely shocked and praised my honesty. I was a bit surprised by his shocked reaction; surely anyone would come forward about something like this, right?
This kind of happened to me, except I'd underpaid tax. According to advice on here, I should have had the foresight to keep an eye on my earnings and then informed Inland Revenue that I was likely to go over the higher tax threshold. This was a pay increment for good performance that caused the increase, so that will be getting wiped out and then some while pay it back.

Bloody strange system with fully computerised systems that they don't notice things like this until we'll down the line

I bet you did.

As per the OP, I would just fess up. It's hardly worth risking your livelihood for a couple of hundred quid.
I already have, mate. I stated so in the OP.
I de che.Common sense that shouldn’t really need explaining to even a teenager never mind a grown man.
Is that aimed at me? I stated in my opening post that I rang them the minute I realised.
