Pubs banning mobiles

Its their pub, they can do what they like.

Personally, I think its a disaster for them. "Hey, lets totally alienate a vast portion of our clientelle".
"Want to go for a pint before dinner, but want to go somewhere that the babysitter can't text us if she has any questions" - fuck you
"Want to text the lads to say you've popped into the pub, and for them to come over too" - Fuck you, too

Not at all surprised to hear its Sam Smith's, the absolute shitbags of the pub trade, who are doing this. Putting their staff in the firing line with a zero tolerance policy.
Fuck those guys.

I saw this commented on by Pete Brown a while back - have a full read of the thread

My personal favourite part:
"The worst example given in this instance was almost boastfully shared. The staff member we spoke to told us that he'd had a man constantly checking his phone because his son was in hospital. The same level of empathy was applied: "You can't use your phone. Leave" "

This is the type of person who runs this company

It is. More transactions are made by card than by cash these days. Given that you do your internet banking whilst driving, I thought you’d be aware of that.
Maybe countrywide, but the vast majority of people I see at the bar round here are paying cash. I only use my card when I run out. There are still pubs in town who are cash only as well. It still feels a bit naughty - like you’re inconveniencing the staff cos they have to go and pick the card machine up. Mind, there are some on here who’d have you believe paying with your phone is the norm. I’ve still only seen two people try to pay by phone in my life, and both had problems.

I pay by phone and by card all the time, presumably because I don’t visit shite little pubs.

I always pay cash on a night out. Not against using a credit card but just never broken the cash habit.

Each to their own with phones. It looks so shit on trains, at bus stops and (especially) in pubs if everybody’s head is slanted downwards and they are tapping on glass. I’d have a book, newspaper or talking to my mates with a beer any day over that.

Meh - people will be using their phones to find dates next... !!
A cashless world is dangerous road to go down imo, I always pay cash If I can.

Card is more convenient for staff, no sorting change. Never had a problem paying by phone. Cash is the real pain in the arse these days, definitely takes longer to sort. As for pubs that don't have card readers, it's only because they're too tight to pay the charge. Inconvenience to their customers in truth nowadays.

Paying by card doesn’t inconvenience bar staff, it’s actually quicker and easier. There is also less hassle for the business as well as banking cash and managing change are a pain the in arse. I dream of the days of a cashless society but it’s still a way off although card usage has gone up significantly in the last 18 months.

I visit a wide variety of pubs, most of them not shite or little, and cash is still king. I’d be ashamed to pay by phone - people in the queue think you’re a twat for doing it.

I know it doesn’t. It just feels like it does. I guess old habits die hard. You pay with cash and have a tab with your pint.

the swan in durham does it so i'm presuming it's sammy smiths. the mrs got told off for it in december
Aye it is, bloke asked me politely not to use my phone then he completely bollocked a few young lads for the same thing. I asked him why he couldn’t have asked them with the same courtesy as me and he had so answer the tosspot.

Phones still seem to be a bit twattish, I know what you mean. Cards are king in pubs nowawadays. Faster, and no pocked full of shite after 2 hours.

Maybe people such as yourself in their late 40s/early 50s who were born too early to really understand the technology.

Paying by phone is as fast as by a contactless card, just more secure.

They're thinking that when you pay by cash, man. Nowadays you're the hold up, not them.
And as I stated previously, the two times I’ve seen people use phones they haven’t worked and caused a hold up. I practice using Apple Pay on the pop machine at the swimming baths and it’s hopeless. You wave your phone vaguely near the sensor. You don’t know if you’re supposed to be pressing the button or fingerprinting it. There’s no response at all from the machine half the time, so you don’t know if it’s you or it that’s faulty. Bloody technology. You know where you’re at with a tenner. And you know how much you have to spend.

What world do you live in?

It's faster by card so the queue will be happy.
What's shameful about paying by card!

I use Apple Pay all the time, vending machines at work, supermarket, petrol station, corner shop, etc - anywhere they have a contactless reader. It always works as well as a card does. Either the reader at the baths doesn’t work or you just aren’t using it properly
