My old local in York was like this and it was very popular, should we be supporting pubs who make a stand against the digital world.

Brilliant idea, make it across the board with restaurants as well. If I was in government would ban smartphones and go back to phones that just text or call, they are a blight on society and that is from someone that uses them all the time.

The only pub I've been in with a mobile phone ban was the old wooden doll near North Shields fish quay. Was like Royston Vasey in there, won't be going back.

It is. More transactions are made by card than by cash these days. Given that you do your internet banking whilst driving, I thought you’d be aware of that.

Must admit I've now fully embraced this on a day/night out. Almost everywhere is geared up for it and it is so much faster and easier than cash. I reckon I probably spend less narl. Not sure how or why mind. Still have a cash backstop for the rare occasions it's needed.

So you disagree with cinemas telling people to turn their phones off too?

As for the pub thing, surely newspapers should be banned too? They're a connection to the outside world and having your head buried in your paper is just as anti-social as having your head buried in an electronic device.

I'm 35 so hardly an old fart, but I wouldn't mind using a pub with a phone ban. That said, I'll very rarely get my phone out when I'm out with my mates anyway. I'm there to chat with them and all that, you know? Other folk can wait.

I always pay cash on a night out. Not against using a credit card but just never broken the cash habit.

Each to their own with phones. It looks so shit on trains, at bus stops and (especially) in pubs if everybody’s head is slanted downwards and they are tapping on glass. I’d have a book, newspaper or talking to my mates with a beer any day over that.

Meh - people will be using their phones to find dates next... !!
