Amazon’s Premier League arrival comes with a hefty price tag for fans

I can’t believe Now Tv (sky) are allowed to get away with the scandalous cost of one day sports viewing. £9 ffs. It is a disgrace.
They get away with nothing.
It's market forces. People are clearly happy pay £9 so that's what they charge. If nobody was buying they'd reduce it.
Anyway, don't think for one minute that Amazon is gonna remain at its current price for long. Once their foot's firmly in the door they'll be as bad as Sky.

They are getting away with it. People are forced to pay that price, they have no legal alternative

Bet we don't get a refund then from our sky sports subscription.
Why would we? Sky have the rights to show 128 games over the season, more than in the last deal. The Premier League made more games available, what Amazon are showing are extra games that wouldn't have been broadcast before.

Saw something on social media yesterday which was a very good point.

why don’t the premier league set up their own streaming service and take all of the revenue rather than outsourcing. Surely they’d make more money that way as there’s clearly a market

This sort of deal is actually decent. I'd be happy if Amazon owned all the PL packages.

You pay for Prime which is actually a load of different things including the free shipping that most people will associate it with and then you get other services on top for a low monthly fee.

I just looked at BT and Sky, to get Sky Sports you need to pay 15+ a month, for BT it's 15+ again (bare minimum) and that is literally just for the ability to watch the sports channels. You don't get anything else included.

So 7.99 for all the benefits of Prime or double the amount at least for just the basic sports packages.

Saying that, I get all my football from an all you can eat streaming site anyway which is the best way to do it, but if Amazon had all of the PL then I'd maybe think of stopping the separate streaming site.
it's only 7.99 for now. they'll soon bump the price up if they do it full time. seems to me they are just dipping their toe in the water.

notice the same old pundits on the gravy train though. bit disappointing but can understand them not wanting to take any risks.

It's been that rough price for ages before prime video even became what it is now. Having the football is a loss leader for them, but its get so many more people to use their service.

Funnily enough, the first ever English footie PPV game (us away at Oxford Utd - wonder if SD was there?) was £7.95. That was over ten years ago.
Was free wasn’t it as it was a trial, I remember going to my aunts to watch it as we weren’t posh enough to have sky back then.

Streaming is the future, this is just the first step towards that. Look at the way people consume media now to ten fifteen years back, it’s streaming. In ten years time we will be wondering why we all had dish on our houses and a box under the tv.
Yep, Sky will be bricking it IMHO. Amazon will wipe the floor at the next tv rights round if they really want too.
I think it will. Not all current prime subscribers will want or be interested in football. I think their current prime package will remain the same. If they do decide to continue with football it will be a separate package with additional price
Spot on imho. There will be tiered packages, normal prime at £79 and prime including sport for say £200 per year.
IMHO the viewing figures will be down because of the exorbitant price tag of bBT sport. With itv the price was £0 with BT the price is around £35pm.
my reckoning for this is that that is the disparity in price between getting BT sport“free” with broadband and then paying the extra to get it HD, as oppose to just getting cheaper broadband like talk talk is £35ish.

i used to get BT sport for £10 per month which I was happy with as I like watching UFC, but now they keep buying more and more shit I have no interest in like the champions league and they keep putting the price up and I have no option but to pay for sport I don’t want if I still want access toUFC.

At least sky compartmentalise their sports so I don’t have to pay for golf or F1 if I don’t want to.

i say bring on Amazon and anyone else who give me the option to only pay for what I want.

Didn’t people say that about Netflix?
BT will slowly leave the TV market next I reckon, not sure the returns are there for them.

Aye its ridiculous when you add it up.
Sky Q with multiroom with movies and sport, super fast fibre broadband and BT sport with HD will set you back around £170 a month. Add in premier sports if you want Spanish and Italian football, then netflix and prime and as you say it's not far off £200

I have everything but premier and it costs me 60 quid mind

Another streaming service? The reason Netflix etc. were so popular is slowly drifting away with each company making their own service. Could end up nerfing the market.

Sadly it was over 20 years ago as time goes by so fast now as it was 27th Feb 1999 we played them away and it was 0-0! :(

Only if you accept it mate. Just done the usual threaten to quit and have the full lot for 91 quid. HD Q fibre box sets sports movies kids etc etc. Still it’s a fcuk loaf of money but you should never be paying 170 quid feller

I just ordered a mug on Amazon and signed up for prime for £0.99 for 7 days to get ‘free’ delivery. The alternative was paying £2.99 for delivery.

Might be worth checking out for anyone needing to order an Xmas pressie and who wants to watch the footy.

Same, wasn’t eligible for the months free trial but offered 99 p deal for the week, watching now.
