Grigg was doing fine but his manager at Wigan knew how to best utilise him. Ross hasn't got a clue.
I recall the manager of Wigan explaining why Grigg wasn't playing , the reason he gave is that the players that supplied the ammunition to Grigg were injured so he wasn't as effective and was therefore left out of the team . We hoof the ball up to him with little or no support and hope for the best , Grigg is used to more support and tended to work the channels but I think the lad has lost heart and confidence through not playing to his strengths .

I read the same article before we signed him and I I just KNEW we hadn't factored that in. In fact, there it is dated Jan 15th

It will take years to rectify. Modern scouting is more than simply watching a match and deciding a player wearing gloves won't hack it up north. It's building networks so when a player is available we are well placed.

It's easy to knock Carr at Newcastle for 'discovering' French International Yohan Cabaye. The fact he was able to get in when nobody else was looking was the real skill.
Unless we recruit what amounts to a ready made network, perhaps?

That takes some believing if true , and gives a good indication as to why we are failing . When we have people attending a type of speed dating type of event it highlights that we don't aspire to make the right type of signings . We HAVE to improve in this area , try something radical even to the extent of using a selection of our knowledgable fans to attend games and give a run down of players performances on an expenses only basis which could be formulated in to some sort of data base to cross reference with our transfer requirements - off the wall but better than nothing and wouldn't cost much .
I put it on here other week Coton been given £500k to recruit 4 scouts and set up scouting system cos we have no scouts anywhere.

I that explains all those fekking sitters he missed! The guy is hopeless!

Seeing as its gone quiet and the thread keeps slipping down the charts, where do people think we are at.
My own take is that the deal is done. If its true that staff are leaving, i'm sure that it'll be the Americans that are firing them, not SD and CM. That said. i'm sure the deal has concluded. I won't bother anyone with the second hand info i have as its just not worth it.

You're right it doesn't. Being generous to him it could conceivably be put down to mismanagement which has undermined his confidence. It's still only an excuse for poor performances but I'd argue its a valid one in his case.
I'm certainly not making excuses for Ross marra and agree that no thought went into his signing other than looking at his record. I've said before that Wigan had Nick Powell in the side with Grigg and Cook stopped playing him when he got injured last season. As for recruitment Coton should take some responsibility. However when has no scouts watching games and the owner openly admits that he doesn't believe in looking at player statistics, he's working with one arm tied behind his back.

Mate i would drink piss if we could just have something that looked remotely like a football team
Well you may not rate them but they are remotely like one to anybodys view so....

In a glass or straight out of the cheb :)
