Charlie Wyke

I've had a change of heart lads. Reading JR's comments on how Wyke had the mental strength now to turn those sorts of chances into goals has got me on board.

Siiiiiii senooooooorrrrrr....

Why can’t some fans admit when they were wrong about someone? He looks a different player now he’s fully fit...seems to have found a nasty streak too which we desperately needed.

Will be a big player for us this season.

Absolutely brilliant tonight.
The lad had absolutely shite luck last season, that injury at the start of the season ruined his season.

He lead the line very well tonight, up top on his own. Won pretty much everything and brought others into play. Given the right service he’ll score a lot of goals in this league.
Worked his socks off

I have openly stated how shit I think Wyke is on here and that I would not have him in the side. However, if he had played previously, the way he did tonight, I would not have said this.

Played very well tonight, chased and fought for everything and won more headers tonight than the whole of last season. Not a world beater by any stretch but an asset if he can keep fit and continue to play like that.

Fair play to him and a good portion of my words digested.
I can't believe how people get confused between actually being shit, having zero ability to do their job at the level they are at and their form being shit because of their fitness, injuries, confidence etc.

It's a good job most of you on here are not scouts for SAFC, but on the other hand maybe you are

I thought he was much better against Portsmouth than he was last night to be honest

But he did get the winner so that has to be positive.

He is looking much fitter and sharper. Hopefully we are going to see him at his best this season which could be a very decent goal tally.

Quite easily MOM last night. Couldnt believe Mcgeady got it on one poll. Though he played well in attack was often wasteful and offers little support to the left back especially last 10 when we needed Hume to support the full back. Wyke however looks a different animal.

Given our style of play Wyke could end up being our most important player. Without a good target man we never get out of our half & spend most of the game working the ball side to side for absolutely zero end product.

Perfect for this league, puts himself about and has found his scoring touch again. Old fashioned CF lumps are still of quality in L1, long may he continue to do the business.
This. Was concerned about him last season as he was brought back in, too early following his injury, IMHO, but he seems to getting back into some form that he had prior to joining us, according to several lads who saw him play back then for Bradford 😎

You didn’t see the game last night did u, otherwise you’d know that McGeady was more than often supporting the defence and that Hume as an unused sub never got on to the pitch

That’s where a striker should be scoring from to be fair.
decent turn and shot for a big fella ..

tbh I expected League 1 to be a lot more in the style of Charlie Wyke . We got distracted by Maja and McGeady , then we signed Grigg but clearly with no intention of ever trying to help him out in any way ( i.e. a ball to his feet)
If we had more crosses from both sides , with CW up top, a nippy inside forward, and Maguire / Power pushing on we'd score more than we do now.
This style of play seems more about creating an appearance of modernity and an attempt to build the manager's cv

He did fuck all1st half and buried an easy chance.

He won numerous balls which he had no business getting to first, and keeping possession for us.

He was dogshit for 90% of the time last season, but this year it's no exaggerration to say that he looks 5-10 yards faster, and generally a lot sharper. He wouldn't have scored that goal last season, it would have remained stuck at his feet.

Potential to become a cult hero. I think everyone wants him to succeed which shows that showing effort and commitment does get fans on your side and results in his confidence growing. In the second half he dribbled past one of their defender and fizzed a shot wide of the post from outside the box, could you imagine him doing that last season?
