This. Funny how this has come out after Donalds words last night. I reckon Nixon has hedged his bets incase no investment comes off.

Anything (very rare) positive and it’s mocked, derided, and declared bullshit within seconds. Anything ( usually) negative and they’re on it like a tramp on chips. Inexplicable.

Normally I’d agree but he PMd me and grumpy with some frankly worrying information that is nowhere near the public domain.

Neither of us are posting it, but if true it’s scary.
 
I’d expect that Campbell’s lot have looked over the books and seen things and haggled over the price which is why things get looked at which is fair enough. I also suspect that the further investment option from Sartori was a hustle to say ‘I’ve got other options’. They’ve called him out and now they’re possibly doing their own hustling through Nixon and Donald’s business deal is in jeopardy. The business side of football is a murky cutthroat world.

For the record all of the above is total guess work / Sunday morning fantasy. Waiting for Murdoch to get in touch.

From the outside, it looks as though Donald has stopped putting anything above the bare minimum of money into the club until the takeover happened. Now it's fallen through, he'll be scrabbling round for free transfers. He gambled on Grigg in January, who ended up being a last minute panic buy of an injured player with no medical, on the basis that if you were promoted, he'd be able to sell the club for a profit. That failed, his other takeover has failed as well, and now he doesn't have the money to run the club without getting in more debt, which will put potential buyers off. He cant get rid of the high earners, as they'll earn more money at Sunderland than elsewhere.

He makes big promises without having the means to back them up, so now he's promised 6-8 top League 1 players, after most of the best free transfers have been snapped up, so he'll either have to buy players nobody else wants or pay over the odds, which will probably mean getting in more and more debt. He's dug himself into a hole, and I think he'll keep on trying to dig deeper to get out of it.

All this may be unfair, and things may work out for the best, but it's all familiar to the lies of Pompey's previous owners, and I've not seen anything to make me think otherwise.
