Wow, an absolute serving masterclass from Konta, 6-1 6-4, only dropped one point on serve in the second set, and that was a double fault. Vondrousova or Martic in the semi final on Thursday.

:cool::cool::cool::cool:

That's twice now that I've intended to watch her match, only to be distracted and her be so fast that I've missed the whole thing. Unbelievable tennis!

Chuffed for Konta.

Still got no idea how this all Swiss match is going to go.

I was hoping Nishikori would have at least strung it out long enough to make sure his match finished after Federer's, so that I could watch Konta's potential opponents, but looks like his will be finished before, even if the big one goes 5.

Too easy for nadal...another Djokovic Nadal final coming up :(

I actually forgot, Martic-Vondrousova follows this Federer-Wawrinka match, not Nadal, so I wouldn't begrudge a 5 setter here. Mind, with play suspended and the inevitable rain, who knows when they will get back on.

I'd prefer Thiem/Zverev vs Federer/Wawrinka in the final, mainly just for something different, but I guess if the likely one did transpire, it would be a real hard one to call and would probably be 50/50 going into it, unless one of them had a 5+ epic semi final. The Aussie Open final was an absolute damp squib, but I can't really see that happening twice.

Great result for Konta, obviously! She'll probably be favourite for the semi regardless of which of the pair she meets. Other side of the draw looks difficult to predict.

Vondrousova it is. That was an exciting match with Martic, 7-6 7-5. I was kind of half hoping it would have gone into a final set and they might have had to come back tomorrow where the weather is meant to grim and that would have played into Konta's hands, but I was wanting Marketa to advance - not necessarily because it's a better match up for Jo, just that IMO, it's generally better for the tour having a promising 19 year old in the semi final, and potentially the final, than a veteran like Martic who's never really been more than a top 30 player and pushing 30.

It will be the best chance Jo will ever have of reaching a slam final, Kerber was reaching major finals left, right and centre in 2016 and Venus reached two slam finals, a semi and the YEC final in 2017. She should start as favourite and if she plays like today, will have a great chance. Looking forward to it.

Federer done superb to make the semis, really good match v wawrinka (not super high quality, but very even).
Hope he doesn't get crushed by Nadal and can take at least a set of him (ideally win, but can't see it)

It'll still be a good watch and you never know how many times they'll meet again in slams - first time since that epic Aussie final in 2017. It's quite funny, the Americans have been desperate for a Fedal clash at the US Open and just when it looks like happening, one will fall at the final hurdle like Fed vs Delpo the other year, and yet their next meeting at the slam Federer has skipped for the last few years. I was just about to say Federer was 6/1 at Bet365, which while probably realistic, did look quite long, but it has come in to 5/1 within the past 10-15 minutes.

Speaking of odds, 12/1 for Konta to be SPOTY look decent value.

She might get overseas if she wins ;)

Talk that Federer might make it his last clay match if he loses as a match v Nadal at The French is something he has wanted for a while, if he gets beaten comfortably. Just talk but sounds plausible

I heard/saw someone mention that as well the other day, not sure if it was a podcast or ITV / Eurosport coverage or just someone on social media, but yeah, could well be his last match.

You said exactly the same the other day Chopsy ;)

Until she gets beat then she's a brit through and through, she has a decent chance not many contenders maybe one of the cricketers if we win the world cup and the Ashes

A lot of those will be in the same boat as Konta anyway, Stokes came here when he was 12. There's also the Netball World Cup which is held here and women's football World Cup which would fit in with this women's movement and of course there's no Olympics or major (men's) football competition this year.

The bookies have it pretty much 50/50 vs Vondrousova and then Halep will possibly await in the final, so a still a hell of a lot of work to do, but if she wins it then she'll be very likely - women, tennis players often win it and it's obviously popular with the BBC, and she is known to the public as over 7m tuned in to her Wimbledon QF win over Halep 2 years ago. A French Open final as well as the latter stages of Wimbledon and she'll still be a contender, because she was also instrumental in GB qualifying for the Fed Cup World Group for first time in about 30 years and she won all 6 of her matches in that competition this year.

Joe Root or Konta if things go to plan Hamilton is to short odds and although he's a great racer he doesn't have much genuine competition for the championship

Chatrier = Halep vs Anisimova, followed by Djokovic vs Zverev from 1pm
Lenglen = Barty vs Keys, followed by Thiem vs Khachanov, also from 1pm

But the weather is meant to be a nightmare tomorrow, so it'll probably be extending into Thursday.

I was looking forward to an afternoon of tennis, but they might not even get on today. It's going to massively mess with the schedule.
