Soundproofing

Gentoo should have double glazing in line with the Decent Homes programme, I'd have assumed anyway.
I've had a very quick look on the Gentoo website and from what I can see all homes should be double glazed. I might have missed something though

Contact Your housing office and see if there's a mop up scheme
Triple glazing would be ideal imo.
I have a double glazed bedroom window, but can still clearly hear people when they're talking on the pavement, beneath the bedroom window.

Other than that, I'd suggest guzzling a litre bottle of your favourite spirits, will ensure you won't be woken by your neighbours noise. ;) :D

I used something like this years ago and it worked relatively well

The amount of condensation my windows produce, that stuff would be dropping off after a day or two.

It wasn't my neighbours, just some random woman walking past and just choosing to loiter next to the house.

Anyone have any ideas on how I can soundproof my bedroom window ? I was woken last night by someone either talking on the phone or to someone else next to my house last night (and it'll happen more often in the summer when it turns into party central round here with folks in their gardens etc).
The window is a crappy single glazed one and I'm getting really down as when I get woken up I'm on edge and struggle to get back off to sleep .
Any advice would be greatly appreciated apart from "brick it up", "go down and tell them to move or kick them in the fanny", or "move house" and the likes .

I opened this thread expecting it to be another loud sex thread about @stephen cartwright

Oh shut up man, I'm going to try earplugs and look into paying to get that window replaced myself with either acoustic glass or triple glazing.
Sorry to bang on but this infuriated me with my mam.

Why should you pay for it, forget the decent homes shite, you need a new window end of.

Just badger them until they replace it.

Council tenants always get made to feel like they owe them something.

What Harry says...secondary double glazing plus a heavy curtain. Just to add that I live in the middle of nowhere but still have problems with owls hooting, foxes having sex and nightingales starting off at 3 am.

Nearly forgot...the missus makes a lot of bed noise.

They won't just give me windows, mine will get done when the whole street gets done (just like what happened with the roof). No amount of badgering will help, it'll just get me grief as they're my landlord after all. I'm grateful I have a roof over mine and my bairns heads.

You should never look at it like that. But I won’t tell you off any more.

Hew Piano, you said you and the bairn would find the upheaval distressing but then also said you're getting a new roof this year?

If you can cope with getting a new roof done you can cope with owt flower.
The roof is done, there was minimal disruption, it was all done from the outside and they only needed access to turn off the solar panels and put new loft insulation in.
