The
Attend the University of Life instead, although it helps if you went to prep at the School of Hard Knocks. Seen quite a few successful types on Facebook who attended. Loads of them are CEO of their own household and suchlike.

Kinky.

Reckon there’s anyone with ‘university of life’ on their social media profile who didn’t vote Brexit and doesn’t love Nigeria Ferango?

I presumed you were. No matter.

A masters is only an extra year. £23k sounds steep, maybe he wants his spending money too.
About time he started contributing to society imo like.
Masters are for lazy folk who don't want to enter the real world.

I’m not thinking economically, I want to do my PHD and work in academics. So it was about going to the best uni for my interests/ subject.

However, at no stage am I ever actually going to pay 23k, I was only ever going if I got a full scholarship. As you say no way wouldn’t anyone in their right mind pay 23k for a years studying. If I didn’t get a scholarship I was always off to Newcastle Uni at 5k for the year. It’s a class university and where I did my undergraduate degree.

This thread was meant more to be humorous then owt else.
'academia'

Provide pre-smoke-bombed apparel to the home fans this Saturday and return their original gear after the match. I'm sure the aquatic centre would help out with the logistics.

Yeah I can and it’ll be significantly cheaper (eg. Affordable without a scholarship), it’s just not quite Cambridge is it  and no, all options are exhausted

My immediate question was - what is the discipline? If it were maths/stats/economics/finance then it is worth the investment as you could make that fee in 12 months marking papers/taking seminars etc. But I doubt there is the ability monetise in archaeology. The decision for me rests with how good you are. if you are going to be near the top of the cohort you may well get funding to study further...Cambridge is awash with cash. If you are going to be in the tail then choose somewhere else, where you may get a scholarship and/or be near the top of the group and get noticed.

Report today highlighting how much a post graduate degree enhances your earning prospects.

They’re probably quite a sound investment and the people who do them will, in the main, end up contributing a fair old whack in tax and NI.

Dont believe all you read in the papers.
Maybe that's true for 5%.
Most of them are lazy buggers who don't want to work

Just got rejected for a scholarship I was shortlisted for from Cambridge University and now can’t afford to go there for my masters even though I’ve been accepted.

I have a month to pay for the thing (approximately 23k), how would the SMB suggest I go about raising the cash? Legality is a grey area in this instance of course!

I need cheering up, so the more mental the suggestion the better

I did very well at undergrad level (without wishing to sound like a **** obviously) and would be upset if I wasn't near the top at masters level also. I've been told by my undergrad supervisors I'm well on track for getting PHD funding but they encouraged me to apply to Cambridge as it best fitted my research interests. Also I have been told that a masters scholarship looks excellent on an academic CV (which helps for getting PHD funding obviously). Newcastle have already accepted me without funding but it's much much cheaper and I have that money already.

This wasn't a question of which Uni was better, it was always a question of getting funding, as 23k for single years study is simply affordable for me and the majority of the population I reckon. The masters would help further my career and increase my earnings, but thats not really why I'm doing it. Which is why I'm not ever going to pay 23k (this thread was meant more as a joke...)
