Smokers

I had a check up at my GPs a few month ago and was told I had a certain high level cholesterol that's associated with eating red meat in particular bacon..no more bacon or steak for me then..well maybe not steak.
I’ve cut down massively too. I’ve also cut right down on alcohol.

The question I mulled over was “do you want to eat and drink bad stuff frequently and die young or enjoy them in moderation and see more of your kids?” I’ve also been out on my David Icke and for a few runs to shift some timber.

I think if you look at the figures, smokers pay more in tax than they cost the nhs.

Not any more. That was true when a diagnosis of small cell lung cancer had a prognosis of 6 weeks with no treatment options. Now we have lots of expensive treatments at our disposal.

I packed in smoking 20 years ago and I still pay tax because I am alive. Had I carried on I would have stopped paying tax because I would be dead and that's fact. The problem was it was affordable then without the publicity. That's not an excuse for a smoker or a drinker to be a burden on the state, but if I was ill through my own stupidity by overindulgence by drinking or smoking to excess nowadays then cancer or cirrhosis or whatever transpired would be nobody's fault but yours truly. The stringent alcohol limits mean driving is a no no anyway but with the minimum pricing per unit, Frostie Jack £11.25 in Scotland,England £3.99 for example, then you have to be pretty desperate if you feel the need. Aye it's even more of a depressant up here when you factor in the cost unless somebody else is paying for it.

I'll wait for at least 20 years before I will take a modern study on the effects of drinking seriously. Many many interpretations of studies on nutrition and health have been seen to be nonsense.
It may he a red herring but it's a l9vely big fun red herring and as I am part of the culture i was raised and live in im happy to socialise as I have been programmed by society. I prefer that to your Taliban social events.

You might catch him with that bait:lol:

You don’t think the conclusions have been drawn following decades of work?

And I’m not saying I don’t have a drink myself.

Loads in Scotland pop over the border to stock up on booze

I had a check up recently , wasn't good , cutting down on the booze , changing my diet , and get back to the gym

They don’t stick a shit load of money into the system. As someone already said the cost to the nhs of treating smokers gobbles it all up.
Dunno how much fags are but I'm guessing they must be about a tenner a pack now, that's an awful lot of tax revenue they chuck into the system I'd have said, whether all of that tax is put directly into the nhs is another matter. Smokers invariably die years younger too, so the long term pensions costs would add upto a tidy sum if they lived far longer
Do all the fatties stick enough in through tax to cover all the obesity related diseases and issues they have?

Also repeatedly concluded smokers are selfish people. Never smoked myself but have plenty of mates who did, and some that still do, and none of them are selfish people, yet that insult is always hoyed about.
Back before the ban, if you had a night out to a restaurant as a group of 10 and there were 2 smokers in the group, 99% of the time the group would end up sitting in the smoking section of the restaurant to appease the minority.

I still do it now, if there smokers in the group of mates in the pub we'll invariably be in the pub smoking area so they can smoke/vape:lol:

I’m lucky that barely any of my mates smoke. On the rare occasion that there’s a smoker with us on a night out, the only way we would keep them company for their fag is if it’s a scorcher and we are all in the beer garden.
