VARguments

But that has only come about because of VAR. So whilst VAR isn't giving the decision, its impact on the game is still huge.
And without it, you have teams surrounding the referee chewing up almost as much time, and the wrong decision still gets made - especially with offsides, which can be overturned very quickly with VAR, as the referee isn't required to even look. It isn't perfect by any means, but it wasn't perfect before it either - which is the entire reason it's here. At least now the referee gets more information and a better look at key decisions. It might be a pain in the arse at times, but I'm for it - because the alternative is also a pain in the arse, but unjustly costs teams matches and trophies a lot more, with referees having to make blind/snap decisions that are uninformed.

VAR doesn't make interpretations, the referee does. All VAR does (on non-factual decisions) is give the referee better data to work from. He still makes the decision, he just has a more informed view.

But all that misses the point about why many people don't want VAR in the first place - that moment the ball hits the back of the net.

A once in a blue moon overturn from the linesman isn't comparable.

I've been at match where a linesman has (incorrectly) ruled out 3 goals in a single game for offside. None of that happens, ever, with VAR. I bet Cardiff wouldn't have minded VAR 2 weeks ago, when Chelsea scored a late goal that was 3 yards offside - a goal that might well relegate Cardiff. That goal is overturned in 20 seconds, piss easy decision. Happens every f***ing week man.

Don’t be daft. It was the football that did that, not VAR. I go to watch a game of football not a game of VAR, to watch someone f***ing off to the side of the pitch to watch a TV screen every 15 minutes.

If VAR didn’t exist it would still have been a cracking game and there’s absolutely no arguing that.
With the wrong result.
Which is fine for us as neutrals, but I'd imagine Spurs fans would be a bit pissed.

I don't care. To human is to err. We've done fine without it for 140 years and many games outside of the PL will continue to be once it's implemented there.

VAR is the future of Football.

God help us, then.

You'll still get arguments about decisions given after a VAR review. It'll be like the NFL, it'll solve some unjust decisions but create overly detailed arguments about handballs, penalties etc.

And they haven't even got it right there, as the blown pass interference decision in the Rams/Saints play-off showed.

Pass inteference isn't reviewable in NFL so thats an example where an incorrect decision was made without video in NFL

Edit:they've just voted in march to allow it to be reviewable

I’m against var, but I have loved reading this thread, many want the game to be perfect on a decision basis and want var to stay(which it will) I still think decisions are subjective to the ref on var, and many want it gone as they see it ruining football for the fans, us vexiters will just have to go back to Sunday league football when safc get back to the premiership and var is there every week
