Not surprised in the slightest reading all of these comments regarding the poor policing,

And the stewards are only interested in bullying kids for standing or being in the wrong seats,

Nowhere to be seen if anything serious kicks off. Yes I know they are only paid minimum wage but so are a lot of other people in work, if you cannot handle the job find something else.

When it comes to policing Sunderland football matches I have zero trust in NP.

It's a shame the club could not draft in Durham police but they probably don't have the man power etc?

My expectations of the stewards are pretty low, so no real surprise at their incompetence. It was the lack of action from the police that I found astonishing, looked like rabbits in headlights and appeared to do absolutely nothing.

To be fair marra, who wants to be a steward other than those desparate for a few extra quid.

They’re not properly trained, most only receive a couple of hours basic training and then are thrown in to the real word.

It’s no surprise when something other than some one standing crops up that they drop their arse.

To be fair, it's never been a problem until yesterday, even when the mags have been up there.

It has.

I reported it several times during the Moyes era. Leicester and Boro being the worst culprits.

Should be back in Co Durham where the club belongs
NP have already shown their true colours

And to the Coventry fans forum saying we'd have done the same, our fans are no saints etc etc. No, we take 1000s away every week, took 40,000 to Wembley, and we are constantly praised for our behaviour.

Throwing missiles onto fans below is as low as it gets. it's incredibly dangerous. One or two incidents, i get that you will always get one idiot. But it was non stop for long periods. Vile.

Regards to the policing, I've still never forgotten how NP treated our fans at Central all those years back after the Hearts friendly in Edinburgh.

Spot on

I remember being at old Trafford (lee sharpe tortured Brian Atkinson day), my mate flicked a penny onto the track, didn’t even reach the grass, a copper walks along talking to someone on his radio and he was picked out. I can’t believe with the technology these days that all of the cov fans throwing objects can’t be picked out and dealt with

The FSF became heavily involved in that incident iirc?

Having been innocently caught up in that incident with my younger brother and his son, I'll never forgive or forget what NP did that night, not too mention the subsequent cover up and huge smear campaign they orchestrated against our supporters.

I'm in the North West corner and saw everything, I understand you are very upset at what happened and I would be the same had I sat there however, I don't agree with it was all the fault of the club, the club were not throwing things over that balcony the Coventry fans were, I fully agree the Police and stewards should have done more and that's down to the match commander, the club can't order the Police to do something they are unwilling to do. I'm sure it will be dealt with in due course.

Why aren't you upset? If I had seen this I would be seething and I would report it to the club.
Have you reported what you saw?

It is the club's responsibility
The police, stewards and away fans are to blame but the club is meant to have such things under control.
Subsequent to incidents the club also has to take appropriate action on behalf of the fans.

The Stadium of Light and surrounding area is private property so I wonder if it is possible to contract security out to Durham Police without infringing on Northumbria Police's jurisdiction away from the ground.

I was sat in the west stand and could see bottles, coins etc being thrown.

There should’ve been action taking after their first goal. After their 4th goal, there were a lot more police presence in the north stand rather than in the away end. There were plenty of our fans remonstrating with the police, telling them to do something about it. I’ve never been a fan of Northumbria police at our games beforehand, they don’t seem to be arsed and seem more heavy handed hoying someone out for smoking or swearing. They were totally unorganised and looked bewildered at yesterday’s events. It’s a good job nobody was seriously injured.

There is a good possibility we could play Coventry again next season. I would hope they come down a bit more heavy handed if this happens again.

As a lot have said on this thread, Coventry fans were the worst I’ve seen at the SOL.

Excellent post

Presumably that’s the reason the lower seats in the North Stand Upper are left empty. Except for yesterday when there were people in them.

My cousins are Coventry fans and have been up for the weekend. They tried to move to the front section to sit down but the stewards wouldn't let them. This was towards the East Stand side of their allocation.

It just seems the stewards on the other side were more lax.
