Stopping at Wembley Travelodge on the Saturday but undecided which way to drive down.

Is it easier to Go A1(M), M18, then M1, or just stay on the A1(M)? Both seem to end converge in pretty much ch exactly the same place.A1 is slightly longer at an extra 4 miles, any ideas?
A1 on a saturday afternoon evening is bliss mate. But whatever time you go make sure its the A1. Download Waze app as a backup.

we've stayed there a few times before and there's quite a bit parking on site. they give you a token to let you in and they've always been fine if we've just wanted to leave it there for the full day after we've checked out. might be a small fee.

I've paid £12 for two nights booking, from 12 on the Saturday until 8pm on the Sunday. Means can just leave the car. I then read than prepaying for the parking doesnt guarantee you a space. The hotel gets some 'lively' reviews on trip advisor like

i've read the reviews as well and some aren't too complementary. it's a travelodge at the end of the day not a 5 star hotel. we must've stayed there about half a dozen times and whilst it could possibly be due a bit of updating it's always been clean and good enough to kip for a couple of nights.

if you see a black and blue Harley with a big SAFC flag on a steel pole you have just seem me, meeting all the boys at the Millers pub and the the comfort hotel

Speaking as a regular traveller on this route but usually the opposite way around every fortnight, shortest and fastest is A1M/M18/M1/A406 if going direct to the Wembley area on Saturday. The M1 still has 50mph around Luton - about 15-20 mins extra journey time.

The A1 is nicer but has dual carriageway for miles - watch out for lorries and other snails in the outside lane - and has stretches of 50 and 60 mph and speed cameras south of Peterborough.

Coming off the M1 at J15 to cross to M40 adds about 15 miles to your journey and is of little benefit unless the M1 is badly congested south of this. Watch the two forward facing speed cameras on the A43 if you do. Also Thames Valley Police have taken to putting a speed camera van on bridges over the M40 so keep an eye out south of Banbury through to the M25.

Other routes such as A42 or M69 to get the M40 add miles and time and are only worth it if the M1 is blocked.

Happy motoring!

Planning on A1, A14, M11 as hotel at Stratford next to Olympic stadium. Much much quicker to get in and out of London after game.

Services on A1 are better and cheaper too, M1 is daylight robbery.

There's lots of weekend closures on A1 between Peterborough and Huntingdon. Not sure of next week, but there was today.

They’ve all gone apart from a couple south of the A14. Can’t remember how many I usually get off there for SE London.

It has one.
I thought 2? it used to I'm sure..

Also the Ram Jam Inn which I always thought sounded a bit risque

The A1 can be, at times, just as quick as the M1 and it is certainly less boring. But here is a good reason for giving it a go...in these days of faceless, expensive, plastic motorway service areas, let me recommed the best genuine TRANSPORT CAFE on the UK roads network. I give you the STIBBINGTON DINER, just south of the A1 intersection with the A47 near Peterborough. Brilliant grub, reasonable and an absolute delight to stop off when compared to the M-way alternatives. Look out of the signs after you've passed the A47 turn off. There are not many places like this left ...make the most of it.
