As a young lad watching the 1970 World Cup on telly, bewitched by the brilliance of the Brazilians (arguably the greatest team, certainly one of the greatest, to play the game), I had the breath taken from me when Gordon Banks made that save. Even the great Pele thought it was in!
Peace be with you & your family & friends, Mr Banks. A true gentleman, sportsman & human being....

Very , very sad to hear. Gutted when I saw the OP's title.

One of 11 genuine immortals in English football history.

Just about old enough to remember the 1970 World Cup and I watched England v Brazil.

I also watched England v West Germany when Banks's illness cost England the quarter final.

Fantastic goalkeeper and always came across on TV as a genuinely nice guy.

RIP Sir Gordon.

Sad day , genuine legend on and off the pitch.Just watched several compilations of saves etc, how refreshing to see a keeper who does no continually palm the ball into open play, take note current goalies he actually catches it. I know its different times, ball and pace of game but surely its not so different , also forgot they had to bounce the ball every few steps .
RIP G BANKS

Always thought this goal should have stood. Just for the sheer impudence of Best and he was careful to not actually foul Banks while flicking the ball.
