Goal line technology is based on 7 cameras in the goal, all calibrated before each match. Based on the feats, it's calculated whether the ball has passed the line. That is not compatible with judging whether there is an offside or not.
 
The little excitement and character that football has left will be long gone once this grabs hold, god do I miss the days of players smashing each other up in proper tackles on muddy pitches, no poncy hand shakes and kissing before matches etc when the opposing team were treated as the enemy

It’s exactly the same principle. It’s whether something is over another line at a point in time.

Granted, the technology may not be as instant right now (the line nor the moment in time is static), but it is far from impossible

But you do not have the chance to calculate based on a number of cameras. All decisions will be based on judgement.

The onfield ref didn't - it was the VAR ref. All goals are checked in the background as a matter of course, and the VAR ref will intervene if he thinks something needs to be looked at.

That second goal could well have been as offside as they reckoned the disallowed one was, simply because its further away from the camera.

Bollocks. VAR was brought in to correct obvious mistakes missed by the officials.

There was no obvious error. It’s still unclear and even if he is fractionally off by a few mm’s you can’t be overturning that.

It’s a complete and utter farce

Except the refs have decided that offside is a black and white decision, like goal line technology. The obvious mistake thing doesn't apply to offside decisions (which they regard as a matter of fact, not opinion). Not saying I necessarily agree with that, but that is what the officials have decided to implement.

It stopped the game for about 4mins, and is supposed to be used for clear and obvious decisions which that wasn,t , if he was offside it was by mm
