**** 2019 Golf Thread ****

I've started hitting my hybrid really well off the deck. I struggled at first, I decided to come down the shaft 3/4 of a inch and it's flying

I think my issue is a set up problem. Maybe just need a tweak here and there as I feel like I’m swinging it the same. The lessons are finally kicking in though. My ball flight on my irons has been brilliant for weeks now. Not much shape to them. Flush straight and fairly penetrating. I can highly recommend Fletch at Brancepeth. My swing looks nothing like it used to. Also made a sound investment in a heavier putter and a yellow putting arc and I’m holing so many more putts since I ditched the blade.

Rite lads. My old man has booked us flights and digs to alvor end of April. Any advice on getting courses booked up? This is our first golf trip abroad. Emailed golfbreaks as they have £169 self catering and unlimited golf /pestana-alvor-atlantico for 3 nights.

Any help fellow golfers?

Still 50/50 on renewing my membership but if I do renew I’m looking to move from Houghton to a new club.

Any suggestions of decent clubs within 10 miles (give or take) of Sunderland?

Where’s alvor like?

If abroad I’ve never used anyone else bar the desired club direct ..juts email the fuckers

Chester le Street, Wearside, Seaham. Chester is a very nice course with very good greens.
Wearside is 5 minutes from my door but I’m not sure about it, had that stigma for years about pompous old bastards all over the place.

I was looking recently at Boldon and Whitburn, there’s actually some good options when you look at it. Got a few mates who play at Whitburn, not the greatest course but I enjoy playing there.

I am indeed ... played today, all greens on but a fair few temp tees... 14 over with 2 trebs on the card

Only really the tenth that was really dodgy

I know 4 lads who have moved from Houghton to Chester for this year

10th is always dodgy in the winter. Don’t know why they don’t cut a temp green on the fairway and play it as a par 3 for the winter. Looking forward to this year again. Been a member at CLS for about 18 yrs now. You been playing in winter league or just a knock.

Just a knock straight after the winter league had all gone off

Played Whitburn a few times but I don’t think I’ve ever played when it was warm. if you want to have a look at Chester sometime drop me a message and I’ll show round. What about South Shields better course than Whitburn.

Appreciate that mate, aye Shields is another option!

Definitely sort out a trip to Chester for a look around mate.

Will you be hiring a car?

Alvor is a little further West in the Algarve than the likes of Vilamoura etc

Alto golf is the local pestana course but probably wouldn’t recommend it especially if only away for 3 nights.

Palmares, a 27 hole complex about 10km west of Alvor is really good if a little pricey.

Pinta ( another pestana course) is around 15km east of Alvor and is well worth a game.

Can’t comment on Penina which is the Main resort just North of Alvor but it has held various tournaments through the years so must be fairly decent although again pricey.

Alvor itself is a nice harbour village which has managed to retain some of its charm unlike the concrete jungles further East in the Algarve.

Some great restaurants in the town and the beach is out of this world.

Anytime no problem.

Aye ! Won’t read too much into it mind with the tees forward not often I have a wedge into the second and a short iron into the 15th

But striking it lovely at the moment

Aye it does draw you into a false sense of security and then March April when it’s wet it’s a different game. :D
