Silly question from this ignorant oldie but if we withdraw the offer of a new contract does that not leave us vulnerable as regards a tribunal fee, as I understand it a tribunal fee is only due if a contract has been offered, would a contract offered then withdrawn be seen as effectively no contract offer leading to no tribunal fee
I think the fact we have been negotiating for 4 months plus, and the fact a formal contract offer is on the table sees us cover all bases, even though the offer could be withdrawn that would have no impact on potential tribunals or compensations I would imagine.

If they would rather lose their top scorer and most important player for free than have him sign a contract any time after a deadline they have set they can fuck off imo. Pure pettiness.
I disagree with you and I back the clubs stance. Be interesting to see how this unfolds though.

Me too, was furious with how Len Ashurst dealt with him
Not sure how much of it was Ashurst or Cowie. Cowie being the penny pincher gets most of the blame for me. Ashurst fitted in for Cowie as far as being cheap and doing it on the cheap. Should never have happened either way:evil:

Asoro is on £17k a week and has fucked his football development.
We’re likely to have offered Maja £5k a week, plus incentives and maybes increases if promoted, and a chance to develop and grow with the club.

No doubt a very hard decision for a 20 year old to make with the money potentially on offer elsewhere from the club, I know what I’d have done when I was 20.

If his agent cares about his/her client long term, they’d be advising he signs that offer on the table...but we all know that isn’t how agents work and I don’t expect the contract be signed, which will be a shame for the lad because to develop he’ll need games, and I can’t see him doing that at a Premiership or top championship side.
Not havin that like

Went from having the basis of a decent young side under Durban to Ashursts plodders
It was bloody awful

I get the financial side would be down to Cowie but if I remember rightly (and admittedly my memory may have faded) Ashurst didn’t play him regularly, dropped him quite a bit.

i think id be offering him a deal which has clauses around none promotion (low mimimum fee release clause like £2mill) and a hefty 50% pay increase including a bonus if promoted this year equal to the amount of pay he has "missed out on" by signing for us.

Have to make it attractive to him as well as us

We’ve waited until now to look for a replacement in theJan window for if he didn’t sign?
We’ll have been looking for ages, but can’t make a move until now. They’ve given him until end of today to sign, if he doesn’t I expect us to start making contact with clubs about possible replacements whilst asking Maja’s agent to find him a move.

That’s the point of giving him a deadline.

If we’ve only offered 5 k w week I’m not surprised hel be off to be fair. But no body actually knows how much he’s actually been offered
He’s a league one striker, how much do you think he’s worth?

Not havin that like
I thought that’s what was reported at the time?

Which is why I’ve been saying a deadline only makes any sense if they are using it as an excuse to peddle him. Pointless giving a deadline if they want him to stay till the end of the season.

Lets face it, if I'm Maja I am signing fuck all until we are promoted unless it has an immediate break/fixed fee clause in it in case we don't go up. Why would he do otherwise? Even if we were to offer him upper end championship money he can get that from 15 clubs in the championship in the summer easily and probs some prem teams with immediate loan out.
