I moved into a role a few years back where I was managing staff who earned a lot more than me because of stupid historical reasons, they were on inflated salaries because of mistakes made.

It’s common knowledge that the piss taking at the club has stopped, you can’t use the few contracts still laying about the club from Premiership players as a yardstick in our current position.

I’m sure he has been offered a comparable salary to other players of his worth from the recent crop of players.
Without Majas goals we woul be mid table now. Asoro is on 10 times Majas wages Cattermole 20 times. As an agent I’d be getting him the best deal. Sadly we are a selling club.

Cattermoles wages were given under a total different system. Totally irrelevant to what maja

no way should maja be on 40k a week . If that’s what he’s asking then see ya later josh
We all want him to stay, we all hope/expect the club to have offered him a good deal to stay, but there is good and unrealistic.

Hopefully that won't effect his performances. Agent in his ear etc, could piss him off.
Hopefully not but in that scenario we have a 20 year old lad, effectively saying he is gone in the summer, some fans then maybe on his back and as you say his agent in his ear. That’s why I like the clubs stance of a deadline today. Again though, really hope the lad signs and stays.

Asoro is on £17k a week and has fucked his football development.
We’re likely to have offered Maja £5k a week, plus incentives and maybes increases if promoted, and a chance to develop and grow with the club.

No doubt a very hard decision for a 20 year old to make with the money potentially on offer elsewhere from the club, I know what I’d have done when I was 20.

If his agent cares about his/her client long term, they’d be advising he signs that offer on the table...but we all know that isn’t how agents work and I don’t expect the contract be signed, which will be a shame for the lad because to develop he’ll need games, and I can’t see him doing that at a Premiership or top championship side.

If he turned round tomorrow or any time before the summer and asked for the contract there’s no way the club would say no. Him signing a new contract immediately puts his transfer fee up (providing there’s no release clause) so they are hardly going to just let him leave for next to nothing because he didn’t sign by today. They would be total mugs to do that.
I disagree, I think the owners are looking to make a statement, just like they did with Papy and Ndong. If the contract is formally withdrawn today then there is nothing for him to sign tomorrow. Remember, the owners took a massive gamble with potential expensive legal permutations around Papy and Ndong and were willing to take that financial gamble to set the tone for this new regime. It seems this is their stance with Maja.

Silly question from this ignorant oldie but if we withdraw the offer of a new contract does that not leave us vulnerable as regards a tribunal fee, as I understand it a tribunal fee is only due if a contract has been offered, would a contract offered then withdrawn be seen as effectively no contract offer leading to no tribunal fee

I hope you are right but I can’t see it.

If they would rather lose their top scorer and most important player for free than have him sign a contract any time after a deadline they have set they can fuck off imo. Pure pettiness.
