Would you challenge racism/homophobia at the game?

It depends on what the individual deems offensive. I expect bad language (and often use it myself) enduring poor performances. You can give a player shit without having to make it about his skin colour, so it should never have to be about that. I personally wouldn't be offend by a comment about someone being soft if they were called a fairy/puff when they bottled a tackle or were rolling about on the floor but maybe others would. Perhaps that makes me a bit homophobic. I'm not an ignoramus and do understand the traditional connection with effete homosexuality but I know gay friends who use the same expression in a similar context. Is it the same as black rappers using the N word? They can but I can't?

Maybe I should book myself onto a diversity workshop?

"Get up you soft hetro!" will be my new go to shout of abuse.
What about fat, spotty, ginger, skinny, baldy, ugly, whitey or little? Would being called those offend you? Sticks and stones IMO. ( I would not condone racism, but as the song goes, its only words).

Very little offends me. Most of what is deemed offensive nowadays was part of the growing up process when I was younger. You either sucked it up and dealt with it or let it get to you. Most of the time I'd just laugh it off. Genuinely offensive language isn't thankfully encountered as much today because people are more aware of it's impact.

Almost got a clip after pulling up a few lads for singing "shoe bomber" at Mido when he was at Boro. They took real exception to me comparing them to mags (tha lot had landed themselves in bother for the same chant a few weeks earlier), funny world.

Took the missus to watch us play Huddersfield as she it's from there and some massive twat was giving Delroy Facey monkey noises. Neither I or anyone said anything he was huge, still doesn't excuse me. Was so f***ing ashamed, she's not been back

Tbf I’m there to watch a football match not police the ground?... there’s people who pick a wage up to do their jobs?... as inept as they may be...

I already have when we sat in the NSU. It took a couple of games before I said owt cos I do believe people in the North East say words but don’t mean to be racist/homophobic etc. As it happens I finally broke when he told James McClean to fuck off for being useless catholic bastard as well as his normal racist shite to any player on the pitch. So I told the twat to fuck off and brought up all his other shite crack. He said fuck all the rest of the season, then we got moved for the away fans to go up there. He’s a tall skinny bloke with long scraggly ginger hair,I’ve no idea where he sits now.

I often shout to players ya big girls blouse
Or baldy headed git

Does that make me sexist / hairricst person

I think there's a difference in the two examples you posted. The 'puff' comment probably wouldn't be aimed at someone gay, for instance, which might alter the perspective.

Not sure how you'd know unless you ran screaming onto the pitch and tried to cup his balls.

i think you could argue your way out of being banned or prosecuted mate, particularly if the said ref had been making queer decisions
Aye. Tbh i don't shout abuse although I got so furious at Billy Jones at the end i just had to stop going as I was calling him a c*n*!

Fuck off, until language was hijacked by "Gay" people, puff also meant being soft.

And dont even consider calling me homophobic. My best mate down here plays that way

Really I've never heard such horse shit. When did it mean someone soft 46 and its always been used as a term for someone homosexual.

By the way if you say "get up ya faggot" thats okay too because you mean a big meatball.

Grow up man do yo slap ya mrs too because that was acceptable before it was hijacked by people.

Just say soft...........

No I wouldn’t for the fear of violence, I tried questioning someone’s decision to stand in front of me yesterday preventing me from seeing our second goal and was greeted with a mouthful of foul mouthed abuse, his parting shot was “ aye but I saw the goal and you didn’t w***er” :(
