Is it because the smb seems to exist in a weird parallel universe where racism is seen as a thing of the past, and people will respond with scorn and ridicule when you point out that the north east is still a hotbed of institutional racism?

Dunno if my memory is messing with me but this board seems to be getting worse month by month for people voicing archaic and offensive opinions. Maybe the surge of right wing support vindicated by the brexit vote has just made people more willing to vocalise their more unsavoury thoughts that would have remained unspoken in the past. The country as a whole seems to have had a rise in the number of people whose previously unspoken prejudices are being aired quite freely. It’s disappointing.

Ok, here’s an experiment. Take a sample of north eastern folk and show them a series of pictures, each featuring two random people, one white and one of ethnic origin. Ask them to choose their favourite, based on nothing but appearance. I’m no psychologist, but I’m willing to bet that the vast majority of picks would be the white one.

I’d say you’re spot on with this. It’s not that people don’t have these opinions anymore it’s just become more taboo to voice them over the last 30 years. Mind, the only rise I see is anti Muslim sentiment, which isn’t really racism is it?

The jewel in the crown for blow offs who love to put this country down as a hotbed of racism which they could blame on brexit was the link below. I bet they couldn't believe their luck an actual killing that they could blame on brexit and everybody who voted leave. This one was bollocks likely most of them were.

I’ll deny it because it’s not how I, nor many of my friends feel. Just because it is a trait you observe in yourself and others around you doesn’t make it a truism. Anecdote is not data.
