Going to a hotel for Christmas.

Ironic this thread popped up, we’ve never ever considered it, but after losing me dad me and me mam were just talking about what to do yesterday and it’s something we are considering. Would seem strange being away from home, but strange at home too. Not sure we could cope with lots of false/stage managed fun and games but we could take ourselves away from it.
Maybe too late to book now anyway.

Why would it be false fun, though? Christmas is a fantastic time.

Did it last year for the first time. Went to Slaley Hall. Booked a suite and it was amazing. Best Christmas ever. Have two young girls who were worried Santa wouldn't find them. Dads rushing around getting presents out late Christmas Eve was funny but we all loved it. Extra excited when they discovered Santa had found them after all. Would do it again in a heartbeat if we had the money.

Really fancy it...looked at Helmsley Arms or Another Place ( Ullswater)
Apart from the expense it’s the black tie and group tables I’d not be keen on....like to keep myself to myself and the group thing puts us off a bit
Went to Another Place in the summer . Was nowt special like . Only had bottles and cans, useless bastards .

I think it would be a brilliant thing for you and your mam to . Do it .

It is not as easy as that though some relatives travel from far and wide and have the Christmas holidays off and don’t seem why all pubs, hotels are not closed, in fact only emergency services should be working on Christmas Day imo.

Favourite pint of the year pre xmas dinner imho - the bar staff tell me the y like it as well - open 12-3 on double time and then go for their dinners - like the good old days

we really enjoyed Another Place...rooms were very good and the Rampsbeck restaurant was again superb.
A few too many kids there but we were there at half term.

Complimentry and re stocked Tunnocks also went down well

I hate that group table shit . We stayed in a lovely place in Crieff and to my horror discovered that we all had to eat at one long table . We were at the and each had a bull dyke next to us . One couldn't take her eyes off our lass and her mate was f***ing fuming . They were both very unattractive and very German .

Prices though the roof, away from other members of your family, spending time surrounded by strangers could not think of nowt worse.

Probably only good thing would be the food

Personally I think hotels should be shut at Christmas, so the people working there can spend Christmas with their families.

Numpty.

Check in on Christmas Eve, get dinner served up between 5.30pm & 8pm. Mulled wine is on offer afterwards. Music starts at 10 o clock.

Christmas Day starts with breakfast between 9 o clock & midday. In the lobby from 1 o clock, there's mulled wine, sandwiches, mince pies, tea & coffee, with a visit from the big man himself. Christmas dinner is served from 3 o clock. Music starts at 9 o clock in the bar, with tea, coffee, sandwiches & Christmas cake at 9.30.

26th starts with breakfast served until 11am. A tour of an island not far from the mainland is on offer, weather permitting, is on offer for the afternoon. Dinner served between 6pm & 9pm, followed by music from 9.30pm onwards.

Check out by midday on the 27th.

€950 for 2 adults and 2 kids for that. That's alright, like.
A f***ing grand?

Tell that to the bastards that kept me at sea over the festive period.
You and me Joe. There I was, risking me life on the high seas bringing back bulk fishmeal for their f***ing fertiliser or oil for their f***ing petrol and what thanks did I get? Sweet bugger all.

The extra pay wasn't bad though.

Remember years ago having debate with my mate, I was going for a Christmas Day pint before dinner, saying that was fine,he was saying Christamas is for families and I should not go on Christmas Day as plenty of other days for a pint.

He was right I was wrong!

Not necessarily it’s down to the individual and circumstances. Some family may live away and one of the rare times they get to go for that pint with their dad or family may be Christmas Day.

Just because you nip out before dinner for a pint doesn’t mean you’ve abandoned spending Christmas with the family. Our lass likes us to nip out for an hour to get out the way whilst she prepares everything.

Anyone any experiences to share in regards to booking into a hotel for Christmas? I'm seriously considering it. Arrive early on Christmas Eve and have everything done for us in regards to meals etc. for 3 days. Surely the atmosphere is fantastic for the people staying there?

Has anyone on here ever done so & was it something that you've regretted or a good move?

It'll be just like Home Alone

Just a waste of hard earned. Put yer feet up and let yer wife do it all.

I have arrived.

I can confirm that the hotel is absolutely buzzing with excitement. Fully staffed from what I can see. No saddos sitting at the bar, or anywhere else for that matter. It's almost as if the people who don't like the idea of it haven't got a f***ing clue what they're talking about.
