Going to a hotel for Christmas.

There are places where the prices are absolutely scandalous, but we found a place which is reasonable, so we're probably going to go with that if we decide to go ahead with it.
How much and what do you get for your money? Bucket fulls of prawn cocktail and mince pies I’d hope.

Check in on Christmas Eve, get dinner served up between 5.30pm & 8pm. Mulled wine is on offer afterwards. Music starts at 10 o clock.

Christmas Day starts with breakfast between 9 o clock & midday. In the lobby from 1 o clock, there's mulled wine, sandwiches, mince pies, tea & coffee, with a visit from the big man himself. Christmas dinner is served from 3 o clock. Music starts at 9 o clock in the bar, with tea, coffee, sandwiches & Christmas cake at 9.30.

26th starts with breakfast served until 11am. A tour of an island not far from the mainland is on offer, weather permitting, is on offer for the afternoon. Dinner served between 6pm & 9pm, followed by music from 9.30pm onwards.

Check out by midday on the 27th.

€950 for 2 adults and 2 kids for that. That's alright, like.

Didn’t even realise this was a thing people did, unless visiting family or something.

Can imagine it feeling quite loneley in a hotel to be honest, skeleton staff that don’t want to be there, a lot of things closed, and can’t see there being many guests?

What was great about it? Mostly negatives so far so be interesting to hear a positive side.
Went with my mum the Christmas after my brother got married. My dad died when I was young, my brother and his wife (not unreasonably) wanted to spend their first married Christmas with her parents at the other end of the country. Mum and I decided as there was just the two of us, why didn't we go away. We went to a beautiful hotel in Stratford on Avon. Arrived 24 Dec, departed 27 Dec. Christmas Eve - drinks, dinner, local carol singers came in. Christmas Day - dinner was lovely. There was entertainment in the evening - a singer and piano IIRC, very nice. Boxing Day - trip to the Royal Shakespeare Company (can't remember what we saw). Dinner again at night. 27 - home. It was great. Gave my mum a break, stopped her getting blue about the people who weren't there, and someone else did the hard yard of all the cooking and cleaning.

yes done it, it was great.

Only saw this now. Yeah, if we don't like it, we'll just put it down to experience. Once the kids are happy & all that.

We've actually just spent the weekend in the hotel that we're considering & the kids had a fantastic weekend. Which is why we're considering going again.

Most of the other hotels that we've looked at are booked up.

Do it once in your life mate at least. Everyone should. It was great.

The only other time was three years ago when we went to Australia. Christmas Day was spent in 80 degree heat, dinner in the restaurant in Sydney Botanic Gardens, Boxing Day on Bondi beach. But that's different, it's hot there at Xmas. But still it reminded me Christmas doesn't have to be at home with the family.

What's not to like about that?

Quite a few of the posters on the thread don't seem to grasp that the hotels cater for the people staying for a Christmas break.
