The video wasn’t Freddie’s idea. The song is about breaking free from a bad relationship and a boring mundane life, written by John Deacon. The video idea came from Roger Taylor and his girlfriend Dominique, the idea was to parody Coronation Street, which is why the American audience didn’t get it... and the fact that in 1984, huge parts of the USA were (and are) still very anti anything that isn’t white, heterosexual and Christian.

Somehow missed this thread. Went to see it earlier - just brilliant! Emotional and exhilarating - makes you feel old when you can remember them smashing Live Aid though!

Went to see the film today. Not a Queen fan particularly but enjoy talent being expressed.
Enjoyed the film and found myself being particularly moved during the Live Aid segment.
(Ignoring the usual and understandable ‘shorthand’ and cinematic/screenplay machinations - it’s not a documentary) I thought the film captured the time reasonably well. And in retrospect I’ve belatedly realised how important Live Aid was in almost defining the end page of a generations musical and cultural journey.
The casting was outstanding.

Saw it today. Class. Plays a bit fast and loose with chronology and the background story, but it's not a documentary. Very, very enjoyable.

Mike Myers' character refers to Bohemian Rhapsody as not the kind of thing kids would bang their heads in cars to. That's a reference to Wayne's World made by the bloke who plays Wayne, both meta and a reference

I have seen it twice now, both times the live aid segment gave me goose bumps, no other film has ever done that to me, would love to see it again, not gannin to the pics tho, will wait till blu ray comes out, top movie
