If you found a mystery USB stick in the street

That is what I was going to post to the 'Ive got linux people'. It is still a risk.

Disconnect from the network, boot with one live linux USB then connect the found USB and take a look.
Assuming the virus isn't targeting your BIOS.

I'd not bother picking it up I don't think, if I did I would probably try it in my laptop and start the apolcalypse though

What could possibly be on there that's worth taking the risk for? It's most likely going to be porn or somebody's excel spreadsheets.

I download loads of torrents (currently 240 active)
That's 240 chances of getting caught by a tracker and grassed up to the DMCA/ISP. I hope you use a VPN mate.

Torrents are for noobs tbf.

Does anyone recall the NHS / Wannacry shambles a few months back ? Unpatched network and people poking about where they shouldn't

Never plug in an unknown stick, never open an unknown email, never click on a link sent to you by an idiot (that's almost everyone I work with) - its also a disciplinary offence to charge your phone off a hub, docking station or Laptop where I work, we're a bit over the top with everything mind

When I worked in a bar we found one on a table that had been left by a customer.

The duty supervisor stuck it in the company laptop (despite me warning him about the virus risks) and no word of a lie it was full of pics of the middled aged woman who had been at that table with her husband, legs apart fudding herself with a dildo.

Probably left it there on purpose the dirty pervs.

Hoy a few of the more innocent photos on the bar website (If there are any) as people who've been patrons.

If they ever look up the website, they'll know you've seen the dodgy ones.

They'll either be in like a shot to claim or never set foot in the place again.

Not that I would be so evil. ;)

Would you stick it in your PC to have a nosey? Course you would.

Just had a “security briefing” at work and been told to never do this as they are often left deliberately to spread malware, especially in company car parks.
Gonna make sure I do it at work instead of home in future. Who gives a shit about the company network getting infected?

So have you got to the porn yet? ;)

Private torrent trackers have always been my favourite tbh - having used almost every form of "copyright infringement" over the years, its always torrents that I get the best experience of.

I don't even bother with VPNs.

Just stream porn instead of downloading it.
No wifi in the porn shed

Nope. I don’t upload so I figure they won’t ever chase me.

What if it contained a secret government list of famous paedophiles or summat?

I download loads of torrents (currently 240 active) and never use any virus protection. Then again it’s a Mac.
Using a Mac does not keep you out of harm's way. With having no virus protection/detection you won't know if your machine is inflected. But it's a very bold statement to say Mac's don't get viruses....

What’s the risk? See, for non-IT people, it might be the chance of a free USB. It had never even crossed my mind not to try one out before today. I still would mind. I don’t really have any concept of IT security, as I’ve never been the victim.

All the usb ports are disabled on our work laptops. And we are in the process of changing to some sort of tablet thing ( surface pro I think ) I'm the near future

You DO upload. When you leech (download) a torrent you seed (upload) at the same time. You're distributing copyright material. It's why everyone using torrents uses a VPN these days.

Luckily for you, you'll get a warning letter from your ISP before any criminal charges are made, so keep an eye out for that letter. And use a VPN ffs!

Private ones aren't as risky but you're still taking a risk. Get a free VPN man.

So how are you supposed to get data from other devices?

I’m sure they do. Mine is just so old and shit it wouldn’t really matter.

You will if you plug it in and get sacked man

It would be someone else’s fault, anyone else’s fault, not herbals though
