New Music Releases Thread

July's been really slow hasn't it? Only thing tomorrow that interests me is the Iggy & Underworld EP.

Mercury Music Prize shortlist is a bit rubbish. I know you have to apply and a few might not have bothered but no Young Fathers, Hookworms, Jon Hopkins, LUMP, Sophie, Let's Eat Grandma and Mastersystem seems to ignore the best of British music this year.

Depends on whether their labels have decided to nominate them. Full list is here:

Mercury prize 2018: Noel Gallagher, Florence and Arctic Monkeys shortlisted

Nadine Shah, King Krule or Sons of Kemet for me. TBH, of the big hitters, Arctic Monkeys deserve to be on the list.

shocking that young fathers and hookworms arent on the list. So lazy sticking noel and florence in there, like boreplay getting nominated with each album. Arctic Monkeys deserve it though imho

Hookworms definitely put in for it. I've got no idea how that has missed the cut. It's better than every album on the shortlist that I've listened to.

King Krule's probably the only one that can justify winning in my opinion. Don't think any of the rest are particularly good.

I'd have had Hookworms on there and likely to win. It's a weird mishmash of a selection though. I'm never sure what major benefit there is to nominating so many relatively established artists.

i found that album hard work compared to her previous effort, i may need to come back to it though.

 fair play to them...

is it though?

I think it's alright. It's not great, just massively overhyped like everything they've ever done.

It's got a base concept that people seem to think is some genius revolutionary idea. Most concept albums actually evolve more than what that record did.

Last releases of July today. We're in the slow season. We've got albums from Boz Scaggs, Cody Jinks, Daughtry, Dee Snider, Face to Face, Halestorm, Israel Nash, Kenny Chesney, Phantastic Ferniture (Julia Jacklin and friends), RL Grime, ShadowParty (some sort of Devo, the Verve, New Order supergroup), Tony Molina and Underworld & Iggy Pop.

I guess there are 3 or 4 interesting albums there...
Not popular on here no doubt, but you missed out Kyle Falconer’s solo album.

I really like it, a good 8/10. People have probably over done the praise but that was mostly a reaction to the people absolutely slating it (Oasis, Courteeners etc. fans basically).

They've got interesting again which is worth a bit of hype imo.

Love the new Drahla 7" single 'Twelve Divisions Of The Day' that came out this week. Saw them twice at the Cumberland Arms (Newcastle) and I reckon they're a decent band.
