Scumbag Short Slagging the fans

thousands hence the reference to wishy washy support which seemed to irk a couple.

All boils down the the fact Bob Murray’s eyes were too big for his belly. He built the stadium too big, trying to run before he could walk. 47,000 crowds were never going to be sustainable in the long term, unless we had continued ‘success’. Thousands going then was based on the novelty factor.

His initial plan was for a 34,000 seater stadium incidentally. In the premier, we would have been like Norwich, packed out every week.

Simply put, the ground is too big (captain obvious statement at present I realise!).

That was the plan mate.

which again makes a mockery of this myth about us being the best supporters in the land.

our away support, it has to be said, rivals any club in Britain but our home support is just average (made perceptibly worse by the fact we're surrounded by 25,000 empty seats).

Someone is lying.

Theres absolutely no way Short will be going into discussions RE selling the club and slagging off the fans, infrastructure etc. It makes zero sense whatsoever; Short wants out, why would he approach any negotiations in that fashion?

f***ing right as well, half the c*nts were only there in the Prem because of free/cheap tickets and the same half fucked off this season when we went down and the cheapies/freebies stopped. f***ing wankers, even Quinny stuck the boot into our wishy-washy, fairweather fanbase man.
If we hadn't have done the ticket offers we wouldn't have had 40,000+ gates for so many years.

Even last few years some of those gates where they said there was 43k etc there were bollocks. They just counted the tickets they gave away to the uni etc regardless of whether anyone turned up or not.

Not surprising either - least successful league team of the last decade man. Fuck me what a basket case of a club we are

I think the stadium was extended because the view was that we couldn't charge high ticket prices, but instead get extra income by charging less for tickets bu t having more fans in the stadium. It made sense at the time.

There is a stat kicking about that shows SAFC have had is considerably worse than any other club in results terms in over a decade. Something like 35 less wins than than the nearest PL or FL club over the piece.

Also, factor in 4 relegations in 20 years, 3 times rock bottom, 2 times breaking records for shitness. No home wins in nearly a calendar year (I’m sure we hold the record for this streak now), and under messrs McCarthy and Wilkinson I’m sure we lost 17 straight league games, nearly equalling Darwen’s record from the 19th Century.

This all, cumulatively, takes its toll. The fan base is weary, it’s been beaten into submission. This is not fickleness, it’s way beyond that.

The economy was also in the best place it had been for a long time circa 98-03. Combined with the novelty aspect of the stadium, this had a fairly big impact

That's correct Randy. I still have the promotional VHS tape that went into some depth about "Wearmouth Sadium" (I kid you not about the typing error!) it was going to be all glass on what was the equivalent of the west stand and indeed have a 34,000 capacity.

With hindsight, they should have kept capacity at 42,000
